Undergraduate Admission Requirement

For UTME

Choose Abia State University in UTME

  • Candidates must have chosen Abia State University as their first choice in the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination). While not mandatory, selecting ABSU as the first choice improves the chances of admission. 

Meet Departmental Cut-off Marks

  • Applicants must meet the departmental cut-off marks for their chosen course of study. 

Online Screening

  • ABSU conducts an online screening process instead of a physical Post-UTME exam. 
  • This screening involves evaluating candidates' WAEC and JAMB results. 
  • Candidates should regularly check the university website for updates and follow the application instructions carefully. 

For Direct Entry

  • For Direct Entry admissions, candidates need to possess qualifications like A-level certificates, NCE, ND, or HND from recognized bodies.
  • They must obtain and complete the Direct Entry form from JAMB and register online.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) 

  1. A minimum of Second Class Lower Division in a relevant discipline
  2. Preference given to CGPA of 2.6/4.0 or 3.0/5.0
  3. Postgraduate Diploma holders may also be eligible
  4. Professional and course-specific requirements apply (e.g., M.Sc Clinical Optometry requires an O.D)

Masters Degree

  1. A minimum of Second Class Lower Division in a relevant discipline
  2. Preference given to CGPA of 2.6/4.0 or 3.0/5.0
  3. Postgraduate Diploma holders may also be eligible
  4. Professional and course-specific requirements apply (e.g., M.Sc Clinical Optometry requires an O.D)

MPhil/Ph.D & Ph.D

  1. A strong Master’s degree (excluding MBA) with a CGPA of at least 3.0/4.0 or 4.0/5.0
  2. Must score 60%+ in coursework and dissertation (externally examined)
  3. Those below minimum CGPA may apply for MPhil/Ph.D
  4. Selection tests or interviews may be required

  2. O’Level results

  4. Transcripts (to be sent directly by awarding institutions)

How To Apply For Admission

Undergraduate 

  1. Visit the ABSU portal. 
  2. Click Application, then Generate Invoice and complete the form to generate your invoice. 
  3. Proceed to any branch of the designated banks, including ABSU Microfinance Bank, Sky Bank Plc, Zenith Bank Plc, First Bank Plc, Ecobank Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, Union Bank Plc, and UBA Plc, to pay the specified fee using your bank debit card. 
  4. After payment, return to the ABSU portal. 
  5. Click on the Fill Applicant Form and enter your confirmation order number/invoice number. 
  6. Click the Submit button to access the application form. 
  7. Print your acknowledgement slip. 

Postgraduate 

Step 1: Make Payment

Step 4: Referee Reports

Print and submit three referee confidential reports

Ensure referees complete and return them on time

With decades of academic experience at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), where he rose from Assistant Lecturer in 1989 to Professor in Animal Science in 2008, Prof. Okeudo has held roles including Head of Department, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), and head of anti-corruption and transparency initiatives futo.edu.ng.

Since taking office, he has prioritized repositioning ABSU as a globally recognized institution through enhanced research, knowledge dissemination, integrity, and entrepreneurial training.     of academic and research experience, he is known for his impactful work in microbial ecology, fermentation technology, and environmental microbiology. He earned his B.Sc and Ph.D from ABSU and an M.Sc from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture.

    Prof. Ugbogu has published over 100 scholarly articles and holds an H-index of 23, making him one of the most cited microbiologists in ABSU. He has served as the Director of the Institute for Computer Studies, and was also the pioneer Head of Microbiology at the Federal University Wukari.

    He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society for Microbiology and a member of several international professional bodies. His work focuses on improving environmental health, water safety, and food microbiology, making him a key figure in Nigeria’s scientific community.
