About

Al-Qalam University Katsina (AUK) is the first Islamic University and the only not-for-profit university in Nigeria. It does not receive subventions or grants from any of Nigeria’s three tiers of Government. It is owned by the Muslim Community (Ummah) as opposed to private universities owned by individuals.

The Vision of the University is to impart meaningful and relevant knowledge with high moral standing and fear of Allah (SWT) through the provision of up-to-date teaching and research facilities in informatics, sciences and humanities thereby serving as a model to similar institutions in Nigeria. The University is on a mission to pursue academic excellence in an Islamic, morally sound, efficient, and conducive learning environment. It provides quality education and promotes research and community service through high standards in students’ admission and staff recruitment.

Admission

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

UTME

  • Interested candidates must have five (5) credit passes in the SSCE (WAEC or NECO) at one sitting, or six (6) credit passes at not more than 2 sittings in English Language, Mathematics and other subjects relevant to the course of study. Candidates are also to note that there are other requirements that may be specific to a College and/or a Programme.
  • Candidates applying to the Al-Qalam University Katsina are expected to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and attain the National aggregate score. This is a statutory requirement for entry into Nigerian Universities. Candidates are required to apply for programmes of their choice by completing the JAMB Registration Forms. They are to ensure that their UTME subject combination qualifies them for their chosen programmes.
  • In addition, candidates must complete online Application Form of the University on this portal. No admission into the Al-Qalam University is possible without participation in the University screening exercise, and attainment of the required standard for admission into the University.

Direct Entry

  • Generally, prospective candidates/students into 200 Level (Direct Entry) would need to satisfy the following requirements before they are offered admission to the Al-Qalam University Katsina:
    1. Candidates should have at least five (5) credit passes in the SSCE (WAEC/NECO) at one sitting, or six (6) credit passes at not more than 2 sittings in English Language, Mathematics and other subjects relevant to the course of study. Candidates are also to note that there are other requirements that may be specific to a College and/or a Programme
    2. Obtain at least two 2 A’ Level passes at GCE or its equivalent in relevant subjects. Holders of OND/ND with Upper Credit pass or NCE with overall Credit Pass are eligible for admission to 200 Level of the relevant programmes, provided that such candidates also satisfy the requirements for admission through UTME.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Postgraduate Diploma

At least 3rd class degree or higher or lower credit in HND  

Masters (Professional)

A minimum of 2nd class lower degree or a minimum of 2nd class upper degree in a non-related with a good postgraduate diploma in relevant area. or professional qualification

Masters (Academic)

A degree with a CGPA not below 2.75/5.00 in the relevant area or 3rd class degree plus a postgraduate diploma with minimum CGPA of 3.00/5.00

Ph.D

Academic Masters in relevant area with CGPA of at least 3.50/5.00

MPhil

MPhil candidate must satisfies all admission requirement for Ph.D plus a CGPA of 3.00/50.00

    Prof. Amina becomes the first female DVC in the history of the University. Amina is a Professor of Islamic Studies with specialisation in Islamic Civilisation, and until her new appointment, she was the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies of the University. History

The idea of establishing an Islamic University in Nigeria was conceived immediately after the commissioning ceremony of the Islamic University in Niger Republic established by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). The Niamey Islamic University commenced studies in 1987 and that gave more impetus to the Nigerian Muslims to crave for a similar University in Nigeria.
