Undergraduate Admission Requirement

Prospective students would need to satisfy the following general requirements before they are offered admission to the Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo.

A.  For admission to 100 Level (UMEa), candidates must:

  1. Obtain five (5) credit passes at SSCE (or equivalent) in relevant subjects at not more than two sittings; and
  2. An acceptable score in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in relevant subjects.

B.  For admission to 200 level (direct entry), candidates should, in addition to five SSCE credit passes as in a (1) above, obtain at least two A’level (or its equivalent) passes in relevant subjects or possess NCE or OND with credit passes, or possess a good first degree in another field as the case may be.

In addition to the above general requirements, prospective students must satisfy faculty/departmental requirements.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

  1. Candidates for admission into any Postgraduate programme of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State must have obtained at least five (5) credits at not more than two sittings in WASC, NECO, GCE or NABTEB including English Language. In addition, candidates seeking admission into the Faculties of Science; Basic Medical Sciences; and Management and Social Sciences must have a credit pass in Mathematics. Candidates shall also possess the minimum entry requirements for admission into the Postgraduate programmes in their respective Departments.
  2. Graduates of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State or other Universities recognized by the University Senate who also possess the above qualifications are eligible to apply.

How To Apply For Admission

Just like other accredited Universities in Nigeria, FUNAI abide by the Federal Government Policy on admission of students into the Tertiary Institutions as may be provided by the National Policy on Education.

1.1 Requirements for Admission

Candidates must possess Credits in English, Mathematics, plus Credit passes in at least three (3) other subjects relevant to his/her field of study.

1.2 Mode of Admission

The National Policy on Education provides two basic modes for admission of students into the Tertiary Institutions viz;

Regular Student Admission (UTME) 

This candidates are expected to participate in the “A” level examination organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and must obtain a minimum average score as may be agreed by the Technical Committee Meeting of the Tertiary Education Committee.

Direct Entry Admission (D.E)

This category is for students with Diploma Certificate. They are usually admitted into second or third year of the similar Degree Programme where the Diploma was obtained. However, each University has the right to review its criteria for admission into Direct Entry

Professor Sunday O. Elom

Sunday Oge Elom, a Professor of Medical Biochemistry.

He was born on 5th November, 1961 at Ekwashi, Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

akaliki in 2006. Before then, he had a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Molecular Biology from the Vrue University, Brussels, Belgium in 1992 and a First Class Honours’ degree in Biochemistry from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

He has had an illustrious career as a member of the academia, spanning over three decades. His journey as an academic started in 1987 when he served as a Research Assistant in the Department of Applied Biology, Anambra State University of Science and Technology (ASUTECH), Enugu campus. He however rose through the ranks in different universities in Nigeria and became a professor of Medical Biochemistry in 2006.

Professor Elom has published over 50 academic papers in top-tier and high ranking national and international journals with impact factors. He has also published many books, books chapters and monographs as well as many conference papers. More so, he has served as external examiner and assessor to many universities.

    ite scholar who is the Dean, Faculty of Humanities was elected yesterday during the 78th extraordinary meeting of Senate, as he polled 85 votes out of 94 votes cast.

    Ejiaga has more than 20 years of teaching, research and administrative experience in higher educational institutions in Africa, Europe and North America. His area of expertise is in developing and implementing educational tools and technologies in university classrooms.

    He bagged a PhD in International and Comparative Studies, from the Stockholm University, Sweden in 1997, a Master’s Degree from the University of Lagos in 1987 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Archaeology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1983.

    He has served as member to numerous Committees in the University system such as the Curriculum/Exam/Result Committee, AE-FUNAI, Council of Deans, Southern University of New Orleans, Chair, Retention, Tenure and Promotion, Department of Social Sciences etc

    He has also authored 3 books, one monograph and chapters in 3 books and over 30 articles in learned journals

    , Ebonyi State (AE-FUNAI), an office he assumed on February 15, 2023. This appointment was approved by the University's Governing Council on January 12, 2023.  Prior to his role as Registrar at AE-FUNAI, Barr. Igwe was a Deputy Registrar (Legal Matters) at Imo State University, Owerri. He brings over 30 years of experience within the university system.

    Academically, he holds a Master's degree (LLM) and a Bachelor's Degree (LLB) in Law, both obtained from Abia State University, Uturu, in 2006 and 1999 respectively.

    Barr. Igwe is a member of several professional bodies, including:

History

Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Nigeria, formerly Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI) was established by the Federal Government on February 26th, 2011 with the goal of expanding and improving access to quality tertiary education to every part of Nigeria. It however, started academic activities on 5th November, 2012, and was officially renamed by the Federal Government after the late civilian Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme on 2nd February, 2018.
