BIU has consistently been ranked among the top three private universities in Nigeria by the national universities commission (NUC) since 2005.
The professors are among the best in Nigeria and have renowned scholars educating our students. The professors and academics have come from great universities within and outside Nigeria (us and Europe) to teach courses because they believe in our purpose which is to change Nigeria.
BIU students have the opportunity to travel to Europe and North America every summer to participate in learning programs that enhance the practical aspects of their academic work. Many of the courses they take count toward advanced credit for different masters degree programs.
The students have consistently been placed first overall in all editions of the Nigerian private universities game (NPUGA) and are amongst the top three in the medals table at the Nigerian university games(NUGA). BUI is also the first private university to win medals at the West African games (WAUG).
BUII pioneered Nigeria’s first online internet access program for staff and students. THE university has a functional WLAN and LAN internet access for all offices, classrooms and students hall of residence. BUI is the first private university to operate a biometric system which monitors the access of staff and students to campus, chapel and hostel.

Applicants seeking admission into undergraduate programs must meet the following Academic requirements:
Applicants are required to take the JAMB UTME and achieve a minimum score of 150 to qualify for general admission into the university. However, for regulated courses such as Medicine, Law, and Nursing, a minimum JAMB score of 200 is necessary to be considered for admission.
The university does not conduct post-UTME screening exercise. Admission screening is based on the JAMB UTME score, selection of Benson Idahosa University as the first choice of institution, and fulfillment of other specific requirements set by the university or individual departments
Candidates seeking Direct Entry admission are required to obtain the JAMB Direct Entry form using their A-level qualifications, such as JUPEP, IJMB, BSc, OND, HND, or NCE. Admission into various departments will be based on the aggregate score provided on the JAMB Direct Entry form.
To be admitted to pursue a postgraduate Diploma Programme, a candidate shall possess:

Bishop FEB Idahosa has been the President of Benson Idahosa University (BIU) since April 15th, 1998, and his active work and hands-on experience in the educational sector spans over twenty (20) years. He is the proprietor of Nathan American Academy, proprietor of the Benson Idahosa School of Basic and Applied Studies, and the Vice President of All Nations for Christ Bible Institute International.
Outside of the field of education, he sits on the board of Pathfinders Justice Initiative, the board of the International Communion of Charismatic Churches, and is a member of the Edo National Association, USA. He is the President of Big Ben’s Children Hospital, Vice President of Faith Mediplex Group of hospitals, Vice President of the Archbishop Idahosa Foundation, and Idahosa World Outreach.
After the establishment of Church of God Mission in the 1960’s, Archbishop Benson Idahosa received specific directions from God to venture into the area of education, starting from Nursery education to the University level.

In February 2002, ten years after the application to start a private University, the Federal Government, acting through the national Universities Commission (NUC), graciously granted Benson Idahosa University license to operate. The University started operating as a fully licensed institution in March 2002 with an initial student enrolment of 400, registered into two faculties (Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences,Education and Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences).
