"Benson Idahosa University is a Christian private university which is located in Benin City, Nigeria. The institution is quite reputed as it is celebrated for its commitment to excellence, character and leadership. The establishment of this university laid back in 2002 by the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa who is a distinguished Christian leader. Its mission is to educate moral and scholarly graduates who would become leaders in their various fields of endeavor. BIU is recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria as a way to guarantee its academic programs provided to students meet quality standards. Students who come to BIU can expect a well-rounded education that promotes faith and learning that seeks to develop them intellectually as well as morally and spiritually. The student experience is facilitated through a conducive educational environment and modern physical facilities to include updated classrooms, laboratories equipped for academic teaching, a library with a large assortment of up-to-date resources, and comfortable student housing."

Benson Idahosa University is a private Christian University providing state-of-the-art undergraduate, postgraduate and professional education. We are committed to the mission of raising leaders for the nation, who are complete in spirit, mind and body, thus contributing to the production of high-level leadership and quality manpower for the nation and the world. We perform these functions by judiciously utilising current information and communication technology, networking with similar institutions worldwide, putting people first in operations and emphasising Christian ethical values.     The students have consistently been placed first overall in all editions of the Nigerian private universities game (NPUGA) and are amongst the top three in the medals table at the Nigerian university games(NUGA). BUI is also the first private university to win medals at the West African games (WAUG).

  4. Technology Driven

    BUII pioneered Nigeria’s first online internet access program for staff and students. THE university has a functional WLAN and LAN internet access for all offices, classrooms and students hall of residence. BUI is the first private university to operate a biometric system which monitors the access of staff and students to campus, chapel and hostel.

Admission

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

Applicants seeking admission into undergraduate programs must meet the following Academic requirements:

O’ Level Requirements:

  • A minimum of five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, at not more than two sittings is required for all programme.
  • Literature in English is compulsory for applicants to Law, Mass Communication, English Education and English Studies.
  •  Government is compulsory for Mass Communication, International Studies and Diplomacy (ISD), Political Science, and Public Administration.
  • Chemistry, Physics, and one of the following: Biology, Computer Science, Further Mathematics, Agriculture, or Geography, are mandatory for all science-related programme and engineering
  •  Economics is a compulsory subject for applicants to Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Sociology, and Accounting.
  • For Medicine, applicants must have five (5) credit passes in Mathematics, English, and all core science subjects in a single sitting.

Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

Applicants are required to take the JAMB UTME and achieve a minimum score of 150 to qualify for general admission into the university. However, for regulated courses such as Medicine, Law, and Nursing, a minimum JAMB score of 200 is necessary to be considered for admission.

Post-UTME Screening

The university does not conduct post-UTME screening exercise. Admission screening is based on the JAMB UTME score, selection of Benson Idahosa University as the first choice of institution, and fulfillment of other specific requirements set by the university or individual departments

Direct Entry

Candidates seeking Direct Entry admission are required to obtain the JAMB Direct Entry form using their A-level qualifications, such as JUPEP, IJMB, BSc, OND, HND, or NCE. Admission into various departments will be based on the aggregate score provided on the JAMB Direct Entry form.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Postgraduate Diploma Requirements

To be admitted to pursue a postgraduate Diploma Programme, a candidate shall possess:

  1. A Bachelors Degree of Benson Idahosa University of Benson Idahosa University or of any University recognized for this purpose by the senate of Benson Idahosa University or
  2. A Higher National Diploma of a Polytechnic recognized for the purpose by the senate of Benson Idahosa University or
  3. Any qualification deemed by the Senate of Benson Idahosa University to be acceptable

Masters Degree 

  1. A first class or a Second Class honours degree of Benson Idahosa University or any university so recognized for the purpose by Senate of Benson Idahosa University or
  2. Any qualification deemed by the Senate of Benson Idahosa University to be appropriate.

How To Apply For Admission

Step 1: Meet Basic Eligibility

  1. JAMB/UTME: Write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and score at least 200.
  2. O Level Credits: Obtain at least 5 credits at one sitting (or 6 across two sittings), including English Language; science courses also require credit in Mathematics 

Step 2: Complete Application Form

All applicants must complete and submit the official university application form online using their correct information as stated on their JAMB results or come to the admissions office for guidance.


Step 3: Pay Application Fee


An application fee MUST be paid online immediately upon submission of the application. The admission letter will then be available for download once admission has been given.

Step 4: Pay Acceptance Fee

A non-refundable acceptance fee must be paid online on the portal no later than two weeks after admission has been given.

Bishop FEB Idahosa has been the President of Benson Idahosa University (BIU) since April 15th, 1998, and his active work and hands-on experience in the educational sector spans over twenty (20) years. He is the proprietor of Nathan American Academy, proprietor of the Benson Idahosa School of Basic and Applied Studies, and the Vice President of All Nations for Christ Bible Institute International.

Outside of the field of education, he sits on the board of Pathfinders Justice Initiative, the board of the International Communion of Charismatic Churches, and is a member of the Edo National Association, USA. He is the President of Big Ben’s Children Hospital, Vice President of Faith Mediplex Group of hospitals, Vice President of the Archbishop Idahosa Foundation, and Idahosa World Outreach.

1960

After the establishment of Church of God Mission in the 1960’s, Archbishop Benson Idahosa received specific directions from God to venture into the area of education, starting from Nursery education to the University level.

1981

By 1981, the Vision of Christian Faith University (CFU), which was later renamed Benson Idahosa University, had matured in the mind of the Archbishop. chbishop Benson Idahosa applied to the Honourable Minister of Education for a licence to establish and operate a private University. Following this development, en expert team of Academics and Professionals was set up to prepare a feasibility report, an Academic Brief and develop a Master Plan for the proposed University. Operating as the institute of continuous learning (ICL), the proposed University organised academic and professional programs for young students.

1998

Christian Faith University became Benson Idahosa University and F.E.B Idahosa became the university’s second president

2002

In February 2002, ten years after the application to start a private University, the Federal Government, acting through the national Universities Commission (NUC), graciously granted Benson Idahosa University license to operate. The University started operating as a fully licensed institution in March 2002 with an initial student enrolment of 400, registered into two faculties (Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences,Education and Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences).
