Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  1. Candidates should possess NECO/WASSCE certificates or the GCE ordinary level or its equivalent, with credit passes in at least four subjects at not more than two sittings.
  2. Admission shall be strictly based on results submitted(not awaiting results)
  3. Applicant must have BSU as first-choice institution on JAMB CAPS.
  4. Applicants are required to pay their Post-UTME screening fee N2,000 (plus bank charge).
  5. Applicant must complete online registration on BSU portal to upload bio-data and O’Level results before screening.

Note:

  1. Psychology requires at least a Pass in Biology or Health Sciences; 
  2. A Credit pass in O'level Literature is required for programmes in the Department of English, Languages & Linguistics, Theatre Arts and Law, while a Pass in Literature is required for Language Education programme;
  3. 'O' Level Credit pass in Economics is required for all Management Science courses and Economics;
  4. IJMB 'O; Level Credit Pass in Mathematics and English is acceptable in lieu of Credit pass at SSC or GCE 'O' Level English;
  5. NCE English major is acceptable in lieu of 'O' Level Literature; NCE Use of English is acceptable in lieu of 'O' Level Credit pass in SSC or GCE 'O' Level English.
  6. In all cases, 'A' Level Passes supersede 'O' Level Passes.

  1. WAEC/NECO/NABTEB certificates or statements of results are required. 
  2. A birth certificate or declaration 
  3. A Certificate of State Origin is often requested.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Master's Degree Programmes (M.Sc., M.A. and M.Ed) 

Candidates must possess in addition to (i) above: a first relevant degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division (CGPA of 2.50) from Benue State University or any University recognized by the Senate of Benue State University.


For M.Sc Physiology and Anatomy

  1. Candidates must possess B.Sc. First Class or Second Class in Physiology of the University or from any other University recognized by the Senate of Benue State University. 
  2. Medical graduates of this University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Benue State University, who are fully registered with Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria as Doctors.


Doctor of Philosophy Programmes (PhD)

  1. Candidates in addition to (i& ii) above, must have a good Masters Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.50 or 'B' grade from Benue State University or any University recognized by the Senate of Benue State University.
  2. For PhD. History, candidates with Master of Philosophy degree may be admitted for the programme, or candidates who do not hold an M.A. in History will be required to take a number of 800 level courses for one academic session.
  3. For PhD programmes in Faculty of Education and in the Department of Business Management in the Faculty of Management Sciences, candidates shall also be required to take a written and oral examination.

How To Apply For Admission

Step 1: Visit the Online Platform 

Applications are available only on the online platform. 

Step 2: Start your Application 

Applicants are to visit the Benue State University website www.bsum.edu.ng(under Applications on Benue State University Portal section) click on Postgraduate and complete some pre-registration information and submit. 

Step 3: Submit & Print Form

Once submitted, an Application Number will be generated. Print a copy of the pre-registration form.

Applicants would then proceed to the designated Bank (Fidelity) with the printed copy of preregistration form.

Step 4: Pay Application Fee

Pay a non-refundable application fee of N20,000 using the generated Application Number.

After payment, applicants would be expected to re-visit the Benue State University Portal under Application and click on Postgraduate to complete the Application Form. 

Step 5: Submit Documents 

Upload academic credentials and other relevant documents and submit on-line. Please, print a hard copy of the completed form for reference purposes.

Applicants are to ensure that the on-line reference forms are completed by the three referees. Please note that applications without relevant documents uploaded will not be considered.
Note: Late purchase which commences 30 days after the date of the advert shall attract an additional fee of five thousand (N5,000.00) naira.

History

Benue State University, Makurdi was established by the Benue State Government with the enactment of the Benue State University Edict No. 1 of 1991. The University took off in the 1992/93 academic year with four Faculties, namely: Arts, Education, Science and Social Sciences. Two Faculties, Law and Management Sciences came on stream in the 1993/94 academic session and Faculty of Environmental Sciences in the 2014/2015 session.
