The Mission of the Borno State University is to provide excellent, modem, free and dynamic environment and adequate facilities, conducive for training and research through its programs for students to acquire the right type of knowledge and skill of good quality that would enable them to be self- employable and that are relevant to the transformation and accelerated development of Borno State, Nigeria and the world in general

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  1. Candidates must participate in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry (DE) and have chosen Borno State University as their first choice institution. 
  2. BOSU conducts a Post-UTME/DE screening exercise for eligible candidates. 
  3. Candidates who are offered provisional admission must accept their admission on the JAMB CAPS portal. 
  4. Candidates need to present original copies of their Jamb Admission Letter, Jamb Result Slip, and O' level and A' level results for DE, to the Admission office. 

Supporting Documents

  1. Proof of payment of the acceptance fee.
  2. JAMB Admission Letter (original).
  3. JAMB Result Slip/UTME Score Result (original).
  4. Post-UTME Result or Screening Slip.
  5. O’Level Certificate(s) (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB).
  6. Direct Entry candidates: Diploma or NCE certificate and transcript.
  7. Birth Certificate or Declaration of Age.
  8. Certificate of Indigene/L.G.A. of Origin, if applicable.
  9. Any other supporting documents used during post-UTME/DE registration (e.g., JAMB DE registration etc.).

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

  1. To qualify for admission into any of the postgraduate programmes of the University, a candidate must meet, among others, all matriculation requirements of at least five (5) credit passes including English Language and Mathematics.
  2. For Postgraduate Diploma Programmes, Candidates must possess either a minimum of pass Bachelors Degree in any related discipline from a BSU, a University recognised by the BSU OR a Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit. 
  3. For Master degree programmes, candidates must possess either a Bachelors Degree with a minimum of second class lower in the relevant field of study from a University recongnised by BSU's Senate.

How To Apply For Admission

To Apply for admission to the Borno State University, you must follow the steps below

Step 1: Choose Borno State University as Your First Choice

  • In the UTME exam, you must have selected Borno State University as your First Choice and obtained a minimum of 150 marks in the relevant subject combination.
  • If you did not meet the required cut-off for your chosen programme but scored at least 150, you are advised to change to a course you qualify for via the JAMB CAPS portal.

Step 2: Visit the University Website 

  • Go to the official Borno State University website: https://bosu.edu.ng to read the screening instructions and updates.

Step 3: Log in to your Portal

  • Use your JAMB Registration Number as both username and password to log in.
  • The system will automatically pull in your JAMB details.

Step 4: Pay your Screening Fee

  • Generate a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) code for online payment.
  • Use your MasterCard, Visa, Verve card, or print the RRR and take it to any commercial bank.
  • Pay the screening fee of N2,000.

Step 5: Complete the Application Form

  • Return to the portal and log in again with your JAMB registration number.
  • Fill in all required fields including personal details, academic history, and upload relevant documents.
  • Then, Complete the form online as requested and submit

History

The noble idea to establish a State University in Borno State was first thought of by the administration of Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff which was actualized by Honorable Kashim Shettima, the former Executive Governor of Borno State 2011-2019. The Government clearly expressed its determination to provide sound and qualitative education in the state.
