History

The history of Evangel University dates back to early 2000's when the retired General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Charles O. Osueke saw the need to build a University that would not only complement Government's efforts in educating the teeming qualified youths, but also produce qualitative God- fearing graduates that would turn around the fortunes of our country.
He shared his dream with members of the Executive Committee, the highest administrative body of Assemblies of God Church Nigeria. The idea was accepted, more so with the increasing demand by Nigerians for a restructuring of our tertiary institutions; so as to make them more productive-oriented and God fearing. e constituted an Ad-hoc Committee to come up with a feasible proposal.
To actualize the goal for a University, the Executive Committee of Assemblies of God Nigeria, at its sitting between 5th and 7th September 2005 having received the report of the meeting of the General Superintendent with the Ad-hoc Committee on the University, set up the Evangel University Steering and Development Committee with stipulated guidelines. The establishment of the University was born out of the need to cater adequately at the tertiary level, for the moral, spiritual and academic development of prospective students irrespective of their religious affiliation, gender, ethnicity, nationality, or race.
Evangel University was granted approval by the Federal Government of Nigeria on February 28, 2012, and took off on November 17 of same year.
