The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) is a public, coeducational, research university located in Gusau, Zamfara State, Nigeria. Established in 2013 and commencing its first academic year in 2014/2015, FUGUS aims to offer programs in both arts-based and science-based disciplines. It was one of the twelve new federal universities established in states where none previously existed.

The mission of Federal University Gusau is “to generate and expand human knowledge and capacity to transform society and to create the positive change we all constantly seek and cherish in partnership with various stakeholders”.

Objectives

The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has the following objectives governing its establishment by law. The objectives of the University are: to encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction the opportunity of acquiring higher/liberal education; to provide courses of instruction and other facilities for the pursuit of learning in all its branches, and to make those facilities available on proper terms to such persons as are equipped to benefit from them; to encourage and promote scholarship and conduct research in restricted fields of learning and human endeavour; to relate its activities to the social, cultural and economic needs of the people of Nigeria; and Undertake any other activity appropriate for a University of the highest standard.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

UTME

  1. West African School Certificate, General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) or Senior Secondary School Certificate with at least credit passes in five subjects, including English Language at not more than two sittings or equivalent qualifications.
  2. Satisfactory performance in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
  3. Satisfactory performance in the Post-UTME Screening Exercise conducted by the University.

DIRECT ENTRY (DE)

Candidates seeking admission into the University through Direct Entry should posses, in addition to ordinary level requirements, one of the followings:

  1. General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level in at least two relevant subjects.
  2. Ordinary National Diploma (OND) at Upper/Lower Credit level from recognized institutions.
  3. Higher National Diploma (HND) at Upper/Lower Credit level from recognized institutions.
  4. Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with a minimum of merit in the relevant subject(s) from recognized institutions.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (PGD)

All applicants for Post Graduate Diploma programmes must satisfy the basic matriculation requirements of Federal University Gusau including Credit Pass in Mathematics and English Language.

A candidate must have one of the following qualifications:

  1. A first degree with at least third class honours from the Federal University Gusau or any other approved institution.
  2. Qualifications other than (1) approved by the Senate of Federal University Gusau.
  3. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with Pass, or above in its relevant areas from a recognised institution

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (MASTERS)

All applicants for Masters degree programmes must satisfy the basic matriculation requirements of Federal University Gusau including Credit Pass in Mathematics and English Language.

A candidate must have one of the following qualifications:

  1. A first degree with at least good second-class honours from the Federal University Gusau or any other approved Institution.
  2. Qualifications other than (1) approved by the Senate of Federal University Gusau. A candidate may be required by the Board of the Postgraduate School prior to registration to pass written and/or oral examinations.
  3. Candidates with at least third class degree or HND and University PGD with CPGA of 3.0/5.00 may be considered for admission in to academic master’s degree programs.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (PhD)

All applicants for the degree M.Phil and Ph.D programmes must satisfy the basic matriculation requirements of Federal University Gusau including Credit Pass in Mathematics and English Language.

A candidate must have one of the following qualifications:

  1. A Master degree with at least CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 points scale from the Federal University Gusau or any other approved Institution.
  2. Qualifications other than (1) above as approved by the Senate of Federal University Gusau. A candidate may be required by the Board of the Postgraduate School prior to registration to pass written and/or oral examinations.

How To Apply For Admission

Visit the FUGUS application portal

Click on “Register for Screening”

  • Select the “Register for Screening” option from the portal menu.

Enter your JAMB number

  • Input your JAMB registration number and click “Submit” to begin your registration.

Complete the registration form

  • Fill out all the required fields to generate your Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) invoice for payment.

Make your payment

  • Proceed to any commercial bank with the RRR invoice.
  • Pay the screening fee using the Remita platform.

Return to the portal

  • After payment, go back to the portal and log in using your JAMB number and RRR to continue.

Upload your passport photo

  • Upload a recent passport-sized photograph in .jpeg format, with a maximum size of 20KB.
  • Do not upload in other formats like .png or .pdf, as they will be rejected.

Print your screening slip

  • Once registration is complete, print the screening slip for future reference.
  • Keep checking the FUGUS portal for announcements on the screening date, and ensure you attend on time and on the correct date.

He joined the services of Usman Danfodiyo University Library, Sokoto in 1994 and rose to Senior Lecturer (Principal Librarian). He is a Chartered Librarian of Nigeria (CLN); Member Nigerian Library Association (NLA); Member Association of University Librarians of Nigerian (AULNU). Dr. Tsafe is currently the Ag. University Librarian of Federal University Gusau. He has 20 Journal articles, 2 book chapters and several conference papers to his credit.

History

The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) is a public, conventional, coeducational, research university located in Gusau, Zamfara State, Nigeria. The University is one of the twelve new federal Universities which were established in States where none existed, and shall offer programmes in Arts-based and Science-based disciplines. FUGUS shall be developed in phases and the University has adopted a faculty-system for the development of its core academic structure. Each phase of academic development shall have duration of 5 years and shall be characterized by the establishment of new Faculty (ies), Department(s) and/or academic programme(s). The university starts its academic activities with a School of Pre-Science Studies and the following three Faculties: i) Faculty of Humanities and Education; ii) Faculty of Management and Social Sciences; and iii) Faculty of Science.

Presently, FUGUS has 17 Departments that houses 27 undergraduate academic programmes. It intends to expand and develop other Faculties, Departments and programs as well as its own M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in the coming years. FUGUS has developed extensive links with other Nigerian Universities both Public and Private, and is able to count on a substantial pool of lecturers and scientists teaching and conducting research in the best universities across the country.
