The Federal University Lokoja, popularly known as Fulokoja or by its acronym, FUL, is a federal university in the confluence city of Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, north central Nigeria. Lokoja lies at the confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers.This university has two campuses ,the permanent campus is located a felele in Lokoja , the other campus is located at adankolo in lokoja kogi state.

The Federal University Lokoja was established in February 2011 by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a result of the indispensable need to create more universities in the country.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  1. Only applicants who choose FUL as their 1st choice and participated in the Post-UTME Screening Exercise would be considered for admission in the Academic Session. 
  2. Applicants must possess a minimum of five (5) O' level credits in subjects relevant to their desired course of study. These credits should be obtained in not more than two (2) sittings, except for Programmes in the College of Health Sciences and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, where applicants are required to have at least five (5) credit passes in WAEC/NECO in the relevant subjects, achieved in one sitting.
  3. Additionally, a credit in English Language is compulsory for admission into all courses at the Federal University Lokoja. For a detailed O’level, UTME, and DE requirements for courses offered at FUL, please visit the University website:

  4. Only applicants who uploaded their O’level result(s) on their JAMB e-Facility would participate in the screening exercise and be eligible for admission. Please note that uploading O'level result(s) on the JAMB e-Facility can only be done successfully at a JAMB Office or a JAMB-accredited CBT Centre.
  5. To be eligible for the screening exercise, UTME candidates must score at least 160 in the 2025 UTME, while a DE candidate must have applied through JAMB.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)  

The Postgraduate Diploma Programme lasts for a minimum of two (2) Semesters and a maximum of four (4) Semesters. An applicant must possess a first degree not below a Third Class or an HND not below Lower Credit in a related discipline from a recognized institution, along with an NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate. A candidate must also have credits in English Language, Mathematics, and three (3) other relevant subjects at the O’ Level.

Master’s Degree (Academic and Professional)  

The Master’s Degree Programme is available for both Full-time and Part-time candidates. Full-time candidates require a minimum of four (4) Semesters and a maximum of six (6) Semesters, while Part-time candidates require a minimum of six (6) Semesters and a maximum of eleven (11) Semesters. All Master's Degree programmes include coursework. The following individuals may qualify for admission:

  • Graduates of Federal University Lokoja or other recognized institutions who have earned a Bachelor's Degree with at least a Second-Class Division or equivalent. Candidates with a University Degree and a relevant Postgraduate Diploma from FUL or other recognized institutions, with at least a credit pass, may also qualify.
  • Candidates with a Third-Class Bachelor's Degree and a relevant Postgraduate Diploma.
  • Candidates with unclassified degrees averaging "C" or 50 and above, who may be required to take qualifying tests.
  • Candidates must have five (5) relevant O’ Level credits, including English and Mathematics.
  • NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate.
  • Candidates may need to pass a Departmental Examination to determine their suitability for postgraduate studies.
  • Candidates with other acceptable qualifications approved by the University Senate.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)  

The Ph.D. Programme runs for a minimum of six (6) Semesters and a maximum of ten (10) Semesters. Relevant courses may be prescribed, and a thesis is required at the end of the programme. The following individuals may qualify for admission:

  • Graduates of Federal University Lokoja or other recognized institutions who have obtained a good Master’s degree (Academic) with a CGPA of not less than 4.0 on a 5-point scale or 3.0 on a 4-point scale, appropriate to the proposed area of study.
  • Graduates of Federal University Lokoja or other recognized institutions with a Master of Philosophy degree relevant to the proposed area of study.
  • In addition, candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Second Class Lower Division.
  • Candidates must possess five (5) relevant O’ Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate.
  • Candidates with other acceptable qualifications approved by the University Senate.

How To Apply For Admission

Step 1: Upload your O'level result(s) on the JAMB portal before visiting the University Post-UTME Portal. Candidates with awaiting result(s) may commence the online registration but would not be able to participate in the online screening until the O’level result is uploaded. 
Note that any candidate found to have uploaded falsified O'level result(s) on the JAMB portal, and subsequently gains admission based on such fake documents, will have their admission revoked upon discovery, regardless of when it was discovered and are liable to face prosecution.
Step 2: Log in to the University's website. Applicants must have a valid personal e-mail address before commencing the screening process.
Step 3: To commence the screening exercise visit: www.fulokoja.edu.ng. Click on Admissions – Undergraduate – Post-UTME Portal and log in with your valid JAMB Registration Number to confirm eligibility.
Step 4: Once eligible, click on Biodata and update your personal information. DE applicants are to update their previous academic records as requested.
Step 5: Generate your RRR [Remita Retrieval Reference] payment invoice of N2,000 (Post-UTME Screening Charges) using REMITA services (ATM card or bank payment).Click on the “Pay Now” button to process your payment.
Step 6: Choose your most preferred Programme from the drop-down list of courses offered.
Step 7: Select the 5 O’level subjects that match your choice of Programme and submit.
Step 8: Complete the process by uploading your O'level Examination details for verification purposes. Upon successful upload, your Post-UTME Screening result will be displayed.

History

The Federal University Lokoja was established along with eight (8) other new Federal universities on the 16th of February 2011 following a pronouncement by former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. The aim was not only to accelerate equitable access to higher education in Nigeria but also to build institutions that can support Nigeria’s drive for rapid development through the availability of quality manpower and a knowledge base to drive competitiveness.

iversity is Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, a historian and astute scholar of international repute who assumed office on 15th February 2021, while the current Registrar is Dr. (Mrs) Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie - a seasoned administrator.

The University is situated in Lokoja, the capital and confluence city of Kogi State, Nigeria (where the two (2) great rivers Niger and Benue meet) in the North Central political zone. Lokoja is a city drenched in history being the first settlement of the British in Nigeria.

FUL operates two campuses with the main campus (Permanent Site) located along Lokoja-Okene expressway, Felele, Lokoja; while the College of Health Sciences (Adankolo Campus) is located behind the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria. The University's Liaison Office is located at No. 20 Mamman Kotangora Crescent, Katampe, Abuja (Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria).
