He has served the University in various capacities, including membership of over 30 committees, Deputy Dean of the School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Deputy Dean of the School of Life Sciences, Deputy-Director, Academic Planning Unit of the University, Head of Department of Microbiology, Director, Academic Planning Unit ,Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic); a position he held before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor.
After obtaining the Nigeria Certificate in Education from the Niger State College of Education, Minna (1987 - 1990), he proceeded to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1992 and graduated with a Bachelor of Library and Information Science degree in 1997.
He was also at Bayero University, Kano (2002 - 2005) where he added a Masters Degree in Library Science. Saka bagged a Doctorate degree in Library and Information Studies, majoring in Library Management from the University of Maiduguri in 2014.
The new University Librarian joined the Federal University of Technology, Minna as an Assistant Lecturer in August, 2005 and steadily progressed to the rank of Associate Professor in 2019. Dr. Saka, who has held several positions of authority in the University was Head of Department, Library and Information Technology, from 2015 to 2020.
The pioneer Vice-Chancellor was Professor J.O. Ndagi who served from 1983 to 1990. At inception, the University acquired on a permanent basis, the facilities of the former Government Teachers’ College, Bosso which now serves as the Bosso Campus of the University. And since then work had started in earnest for the physical development of the Main Campus which in phase I consists of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT), School of Environmental Technology (SET), School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) Buildings, Students Hostels, Students Center, University Library, Senate Building, Staff houses, Computer Centre as well as the Industrial Development Centre.
The completion of students’ hostels, some staff houses, SET and SEET buildings facilitated the commencement of full academic activities in the Main Campus at the beginning of the 2004/2005 academic session. Meanwhile, SAAT which was temporarily occupying a part of the SEET Complex has been successfully completed and moved in 2009.
