Gombe State University (GSU) is a Nigerian public university located in Gombe, Gombe State, Nigeria. It was established in 2004 and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The university's mission is to provide high-quality education, research, and teaching, with a focus on developing students into leaders for Gombe State, Nigeria, and the world.

Mission

The mission of the University is to provide opportunities for high quality University Education through the creation of an enabling environment, where teachers and students can excel in teaching, research and learning. In this regard, the University shall continue to train and retrain its staff, in order to acquire more skills, knowledge and values for self-development and the advancement of the larger society.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  1. Candidates who selected the Gombe State University as their first choice in the JAMB UTME and chose any of the programmes of their choice.
  2. Interested candidates who did not choose Gombe State University as their first choice but wish to study in Gombe State University.
  3. Applicants must possess a minimum of five (5) O' level credits in subjects relevant to their desired course of study.

  4. O-Level Statement of Result (and online print)

Mandatory for all applicants. No application accepted without it. 

Academic Transcript

Sent directly from your previous institution to the Head of Department (HOD) of your intended programme. Electronic or physical as specified. 

Passport Photograph

Recent clear JPEG image, plain background, file size usually ?150?KB. 

Research Proposal (PhD Applicants only)

Upload a written synopsis during application and send a printed copy to the intended HOD.

How To Apply For Admission

Step 1: Choose Your Course

Before starting your application, decide what course or program you want to study.

Visit the GSU official website or JAMB brochure to see the list of available courses.

Make sure you meet the O’level requirements (like English, Mathematics, and other relevant subjects).

Step 2: Register for JAMB (UTME or Direct Entry)

To apply for any Nigerian university, you must first register for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam.

During JAMB registration, choose Gombe State University as your first choice institution.

Write the JAMB exam and aim for a good score (preferably above 180).

For Direct Entry (DE), ensure your results or certificates (ND, NCE, or A-level) are ready.

Step 3: Check GSU Admission Portal

After the JAMB results are released, visit the GSU admission portal:
https://gsu.edu.ng (or search “Gombe State University admission portal” on Google)

Look for the link that says “Post-UTME Screening” or “Admission Application.”

Read all the instructions carefully before applying.

Step 4: Pay for the Post-UTME Screening Form

You need to pay a small fee for the Post-UTME screening form.

The payment is usually done online using your ATM card or at any approved bank.

Keep your payment receipt safe because you will need it later.

Step 5: Fill Out the Online Application Form

After payment, fill out the online application form on the GSU portal.
You will need to:

Enter your personal details (name, date of birth, phone number, etc.)

Upload your passport photograph.

Enter your JAMB registration number and O’level results (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB).

Double-check all details before submitting.

Step 6: Print Your Acknowledgement Slip

Once you submit the form, print your acknowledgement slip.

This slip shows proof that you have successfully completed your application.

Vice Chancellor

Sani Ahmed Yauta

Professor Yauta, a distinguished scholar and seasoned administrator, has been a dedicated member of the University community since 2006. He began his journey as a Graduate Assistant and rose to the rank of Professor of Educational Management and Finance. r, Professor Yauta has served in several strategic positions. These include Programme Coordinator, Head of the Department of Educational Foundations, Deputy Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Education, Acting Director of the Directorate of General Studies, and the pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). He also demonstrated leadership at the College of Education, Billiri, where he served as Deputy Provost. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Gombe State University. An accomplished academic, Professor Yauta holds a Bachelor of Science in Education (Economics) from the University of Abuja and a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning from the University of Maiduguri. He also earned a Doctorate in Higher Education Management and Finance from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. H
