Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  1. Prospective candidates must have sat for the UTME Examinations, must have applied for a course in GSU and must have scored an aggregate to be determined by the University before they are deemed eligible in subjects relevant to the programme applied for.
  2. Prospective candidates must have obtained a minimum of Five (5) passes at Credit level in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE or Equivalent)

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

I. General Requirements (Mandatory for All)

  • O'Level: Must possess five (5) relevant credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.
  • NYSC Certificate: Required for Nigerian graduates, or a Certificate of Exemption/Exclusion.

II. Specific Requirements by Degree

A. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

Eligibility:

  • A Bachelor's degree (minimum Third Class Honours) from a recognized university.
  • OR A Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower Credit in a relevant discipline.

B. Master's Degree (M.Sc., M.A., MBA, MPA)

Eligibility:

  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of Second Class Honours, Lower Division in the proposed field of study from a recognized university.
  • Alternative: Candidates with a Third Class Honours degree or an HND may be considered if they also hold a relevant Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) with an Upper Credit.
  • Note: Some professional programs like MBA may have specific entry requirements for non-Business degree holders.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Eligibility:

  • Must hold a good Master's Degree (M.Sc., M.A., or M.Phil.) in the intended area of specialization from a recognized university.
  • Candidates must usually meet a specified minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from their Master's program (often 3.5 or 4.0, depending on the faculty).
  • Applicants may be required to undergo a selection test.

  2. Bachelor’s Degree Certificate or Statement of Result – minimum of Second Class Lower Division (for Master’s applicants).
  3. NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate – compulsory for Nigerian applicants.
  4. O’Level Result (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB) – showing at least 5 credits, including English and Mathematics.

Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta

Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, born on 8th October 1974 in Malam Sidi, Gombe State, is a distinguished academic and administrator with a remarkable career in the field of education. iversity of Colombo (2015) and boasts academic qualifications from prestigious institutions such as the University of Maiduguri, University of Abuja, and Federal Polytechnic Mubi. Over the years, Professor Yauta has made significant contributions to academia, having held several key administrative roles at Gombe State University, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) since 2021, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Deputy Dean and Head of the Department of Educational Foundations. He has also served as Director of General Studies and Deputy Provost at the College of Education, Billiri. His leadership and administrative skills are further demonstrated through his chairmanship of several university committees, including the University Senate Business Committee, Central Examination Committee, staff Development Committee, Gombe State University Ranking Committee, and the TETFUND Projects Commissioning Committee. A prolific researcher, Professor Yauta has attracted various grants, including studies on teacher absenteeism in North-East Nigeria and the impact of emergency remote teaching post-COVID-19. His dedication to capacity building is evident in his involvement in numerous local and national training workshops for teachers, as well as his role as a consultant for international projects like the USAID SENSE initiative. Professor Yauta is a fellow of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Corporate Administration, the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management, and the Institute of Industrialists and Corporate Administrators. His service to the academic community is further underscored by his membership in the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, the Nigerian Association of Education Planners and Administrators, and the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management. Respected for his commitment to excellence, Professor Yauta continues to play a pivotal role in advancing education in Gombe State and Nigeria at large.

    Advanced Diploma in Account and Auditing from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in 1998, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting Education from University of Maiduguri, a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting from College of Accounting, Jos and Graduate Professional Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria.. Prior to his appointment in Gombe State University, he started his working career in Gombe State Investment Company from 1998-2005. His first appointment with the Gombe State University was the post of a Senior Accountant and rose to the rank of Principal Accountant from 2007-2009. He became the acting University Bursar from 2009-2012. He occupied a number of positions in the University which included: Chief Accountant and Deputy Bursar from 2012-2018. He is one of the pioneer Staff of the University. He is a member of several professional bodies and societies which include: The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (PSMN), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Nigeria (ICPAN). History

Gombe State University was set up by Governor Mohammed Danjuma Goje in 2003. The state's ministry of education set up a 35-member committee of stakeholders who reported to the state executive council to establish a state owned university. The state executive council approved the constitution of a 24-member technical planning committee to oversee the affairs of the university at the time of its inception.The university produces graduates to enable them to engage in productive political, economic, and social activities. The university has no religious affiliation. As a state-owned university, it is affordable, with low tuition and accommodation costs
