Undergraduate Admission Requirement

UTME

Applicants who seeking admission to the University through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) may be admitted into the first year (100 level) of the 4/5 year degree programme provided that:

  1. They have completed a full course of training in the Senior Secondary School (SSS) or in an approved college or institute of equivalent status.
  2. They possess one or more of the following qualifications:
  • The Senior Secondary School Certificate (S.S.C.E.) National Examinations Council Certificate (NECO) or the West African School Certificate (WASC) or General Certificate in Education (GCE) through the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) with passes at credit level in at least five subjects including Mathematics and English Language, obtained at not more than two sittings.
  • The Teachers Grade II Certificate (for education courses only) with Credit/Merit in at least five relevant subjects including Mathematics and English Language.
  • NABTEB O’ level with Credits in at least 5 relevant subjects.

Direct Entry

Applicants with one or more of the following qualifications may be considered for admission by direct entry into 200 level of the 4/5 Year degree programmes:

  1. Two Credit passes at the advanced level and SSCE/GCE O’ level Credit passes in five relevant subjects obtained at not more than two sittings.
  2. Upper Credit at the National Diploma and SSCE/GCE O’ level credit passes in five relevant subjects obtained at not more than two sittings.
  3. Passes at credit level in two major subjects in the NCE with SSCE /GCE O’ level credits or equivalent with five relevant subjects. Education is accepted as third A’ level subject for those taking courses in education.
  4. Two passes at minimum of C grade in the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Examinations or equivalent with SSCE/GCE O’ level, credit passes in five relevant subjects obtained at not more than two sittings.
  5.  A credit passes in Mathematics and English Language are required for all courses.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes Applicants must possess:

  1. A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of Third-Class Degree HND from a recognized Polytechnic with a minimum of Lower Credit NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate/letter
  2. 5 O' Level Credit passes including English Language and Mathematics Any other qualification acceptable to the Senate of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.


Master's Programmes, Applicant must possess:

  1. Bachelor's degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower Division honours from a recognised institutions.
  2. NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate/letter.
  3. 5 O' Level credit passes in relevant subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
  4. Candidates for English Language and Literature must possess credit in O'Level Literature in English
  5. Candidates with Third Class Bachelor's degree or HND (Upper Credit) who in addition, possess a Postgraduate diploma (PGD) with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 5.00 scale in a relevant discipline may be considered. Minimum duration of the Masters degree is 18 months.
  6. The PGD Management and MBA programmes will hold their lectures at IBB University Suleja Campus( Field Base)


Ph.D. Degree Programmes (applicants must possess): 

  1. Candidates seeking admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programme of IBB University must possess the Bachelor's and Master's Degrees of IBB University or any other University recognized by the Senate of IBB University in the relevant discipline.
  2. To qualify for direct entry into the Ph.D. degree programme, a candidate must have a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale or equivalent of 60% in Master's (M.A., M.Sc and M Ed) degree result. 
  3. Candidates who graduated with CGPA of 3.00-3.49 on a 5.00 scale or equivalent (55-59%) in the Master's degree may be considered for M.Phil/Ph.D. programme in the respective discipline. 
  4. Candidates with professional Master's degrees may be admitted for MPhil/PhD. programme provided they have obtained M.Sc. degrees in relevant fields. 
  5. A Ph.D. degree programme runs for a minimum period of 36 calendar months and a maximum period of 48 calendar months for full-time candidates OR a minimum of 60 calender months for part-time candidates.

How To Apply For Admission

The following are the steps for the result submission/screening process:

Note 1. All UTME/DE prospective candidates are to check/verify their eligibility for the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University UTME/DE O'Level results screening/verification exercise.

Note 2. Successful prospective candidates who have met the minimum requirements should proceed to payment by generating an invoice and then follow the payment instructions.

Note 3. The prospective candidate is required to make a payment of; TWO THOUSAND NAIRA ONLY (N2,000 : 00K) - to submit either ONE(1) or TWO(2) O'LEVEL RESULT(s). The amount includes all transaction charges.

Stage 1: CANDIDATES ELIGIBILITY CHECK:

  • Enter their JAMB Registration Number to confirm if they are eligible. If eligible:
  • Enter their mobile phone number to proceed.
  • After login , then click on the Payment menu to generate invoice and make payment.

Stage 2: RESULT SUBMISSION & DOCUMENTS UPLOADS:

You are required to log into the Portal using your UTME Registration Number and Phone Number.
Candidates are advised to correctly input their results and any other requested information on the portal. After submission, candidates may print out their submission acknowledgment slip for personal reference only.

Vice Chancellor

Adamu Abu Kasim

Adamu Abu Kasim is a Nigerian botanist and professor of science. He was appointed as vice chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai by Abubakar Sani Bello, assumed office in December 2019.

He also holds a M.Sc. of Botany and PhD of crop breeding in Ahmadu Bello University, he then obtained a Certificate in Tissue Biotechnology in 1995 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.<... read more
