Imo State University (IMSU), located in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, was established in 1981 through law No. 4 of the Imo State House of Assembly. The university's mission is to advance learning through teaching and research, fostering creativity, discipline, and community service. IMSU is a fully functional university with many of its programs fully accredited by the National Universities Commission of Nigeria

Prof Chukwumaeze has received more than 30 certificates of Honour by various bodies and communities in appreciation of his services to humanity. He is a well respected legal practitioner of a very high distinction. He was one of the 24 (twenty four) legal practitioners engaged in 2017 to overhaul the entire laws relating to the legal profession and draft a new law for the future of the legal profession- Legal Profession Regulation Review Committee of Nigerian Bar Association. In 2019, he was conferred with the prestigious title of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria- the first and only academic senior advocate from Imo State. He was a member of the Committee that drafted the Administration of Criminal Justice Bill, Imo State, 2020 and a member of the Review Committee on Allocation of Lands in Imo State 2007 till 2019. He is currently the Editor in Chief of Nigerian Bar Association Journal.
