Imo State University (IMSU), located in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, was established in 1981 through law No. 4 of the Imo State House of Assembly. The university's mission is to advance learning through teaching and research, fostering creativity, discipline, and community service. Mission

The mission of Imo State University is to encourage the advancement of learning through teaching and research; to foster creativity, discipline, and inventiveness, as well as patriotism and community service in Imo State of Nigeria in particular, Nigeria in general, and the world at large.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

A. General Documents (All Applicants)

  • JAMB Admission Letter (Original and photocopy) – printed from https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng.
  • IMSU Admission Letter – issued by the university after acceptance of offer.
  • JAMB Result Slip (showing your UTME score).
  • O’Level Results (WAEC, NECO, or equivalent) – with at least 5 credits including English and Mathematics.
  • Printout or original statement of result accepted.
  • Birth Certificate or Age Declaration.
  • Local Government Identification Certificate (Indigene Certificate).
  • Acceptance Fee Receipt – proof of payment (usually paid via https://imsu.edu.ng).
  • School Fees Payment Receipt – proof of tuition payment.
  • Online Registration Printout – acknowledgment slip from the IMSU portal.

B. For Direct Entry Candidates (DE Applicants)

  • In addition to the above:
  • ND/NCE/HND/B.Sc. Certificate or Statement of Result.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

PGD

  • Minimum of Third Class Bachelor’s degree or HND (Upper Credit) in related field.
  • Transcripts and two academic references.
  • Duration: 2–4 semesters (full-time)

MASTERS

  • Minimum of Second Class Lower Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline.
  • Statement of Purpose and academic transcripts.
  • Duration: 3–6 semesters (full-time); research/thesis required.

DOCTORATE

  • Master’s degree with thesis in relevant field and minimum CGPA as required.
  • Research proposal and supervisor availability.
  • Duration: 6–10 semesters (full-time); comprehensive examination & viva.

Prof. Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze

Professor Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze, Ichie Osinachukwu of Amucha- Ebeise, from Umuokpoko, Amucha-Ebesie, Njaba LGA of Imo State is a Ph.D holder in Law. Prof Chukwumaeze has received more than 30 certificates of Honour by various bodies and communities in appreciation of his services to humanity. He is a well respected legal practitioner of a very high distinction. He was one of the 24 (twenty four) legal practitioners engaged in 2017 to overhaul the entire laws relating to the legal profession and draft a new law for the future of the legal profession- Legal Profession Regulation Review Committee of Nigerian Bar Association. In 2019, he was conferred with the prestigious title of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria- the first and only academic senior advocate from Imo State. He was a member of the Committee that drafted the Administration of Criminal Justice Bill, Imo State, 2020 and a member of the Review Committee on Allocation of Lands in Imo State 2007 till 2019. He is currently the Editor in Chief of Nigerian Bar Association Journal.
