Professor Kevin Shakesheff joined Keele from the Open University, where he was the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, leading the university's institutional plans for research, commercial activities, and scholarship.

He was appointed to a lectureship in chemistry at Keele in 1992, and in 1997 was awarded a prestigious EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship and promoted to Professor of Clean Technology and Inorganic Materials Chemistry in recognition of his research achievements.
Founded in 1949 with a commitment to meet the demands of a new kind of society, economy and world, Keele was the first new university of the 20th Century and remains true to its original mission today.
