About

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), a first-grade unique institution of higher learning, is an autonomous public institution with the general function of providing liberal higher education and research in Nigeria.

The University was established on April 23, 1990, under the old Oyo State with the name Oyo State University of Technology, Ogbomoso (OSUTECH). Upon the creation of Osun State out of the Old Oyo State in 1991, the name of the University was changed to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH). The University was jointly owned by Oyo and Osun States until November 20, 2020, when the University became solely owned by Oyo State following a mutual agreement between the two states.

LAUTECH has a student population of about thirty thousand (30,000) and has more than three thousand (3,000) highly skilled and internationally acclaimed staff (academic, non-teaching, and contract) in its employ. The quality of staff has consistently reflected in the standard of works being done in LAUTECH. It has also reflected in the awards and laurels being won regularly by the University.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

UTME Candidates

  1. Applicants must have at least five credit passes in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in a maximum of two sittings.
  2. Applicant must score at least 170 in the UTME exam to be eligible for admission and to access the Post-UTME screening.
  3. Your JAMB subject combination must match the requirements of your chosen faculty or course.
  4. All applicants must have selected LAUTECH as first-choice university in their JAMB application.
  5. After the JAMB exam, you must sit for LAUTECH’s Post-UTME screening test (also called screening or aptitude test) and meet departmental cutoff marks.

Direct Entry Candidates

  1. Same O’Level requirement as UTME.
  2. Applicant will need an A-Level/IJMB pass, ND/NCE with Merit/Upper Credit, or a relevant degree.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

  1. You need a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc, B.Tech, B.Eng, B.A, BMLS) with at least a Third Class in a relevant field.
  2. Alternatively, a Lower Credit HND in a related discipline qualifies.
  3. Special consideration is given to MB; BS or DVM degree holders for PGD in Biochemistry. 

M.Tech / M.Sc

  1. Requires a bachelor’s degree with at least a Second Class Lower Division (e.g., B.Sc, B.Tech, B.Eng, B.A, BMLS).
  2. B.Pharm degree holders and PGD holders with a minimum score of 60% are also eligible. 

M.Phil and Ph.D.

  1. M.Phil applicants must have scored at least 50% in their Master’s degree.
  2. Ph.D. candidates need a minimum of 60% in their Master’s.
  3. Some Ph.D. candidates may begin with an integrated M.Phil/Ph.D. program if deemed appropriate.

How To Apply For Admission

  1. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME): Candidates sit for the UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
  2. JAMB Result: Candidates receive their UTME results, which determine their eligibility for admission.
  3. Application : Interested candidates can apply by obtaining an application form, provided they meet the school's admission requirements.
  4. Screening: Candidates are screened based on Jamb score and olevel result.
  5. Screening Result: Candidates receive their screening results, which determine their eligibility for admission.
  6. Admission List: The institution releases an admission list, containing the names of candidates offered provisional admission.

History

In 1987, Governor Adetunji Olurin, the Military Governor of Oyo State, received a request from the Polytechnic, Ibadan's Governing Council to establish a State University. In 1988, he formed a seven-member interministerial committee, chaired by Mrs. Oyinkan Ayoola, which recommended the university's creation. On 13 March 1990, Nigeria's federal military government approved the State's request. The edict establishing Oyo State University of Technology was signed on 23 April 1990, by Colonel Sasaenia Oresanya.

versity commenced its initial academic session on 19 October 1990, with 436 enrolled students across four faculties: Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Engineering and Management Science, Pure and Applied Science. A College of Health Sciences was established a year later.
Following the separation of Osun State from Oyo State, the university's name was changed to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.
