Lead City University (LCU), established in 2005, is a private university in Ibadan, Nigeria, known for its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community development. Academic Programmes at the Lead City University took off from the Jericho Campus of the University located within Ibadan City, with adequate human physical and material resources. The University utilises information technology via its own V-SAT and Local Area Network to enhance holistic education for social, economic, cultural development and self-reliance. Each student will be knowledgeable in management and information sciences. They will also compulsorily offer any of the professional programmes (ATS, ACII, ICAN, NIPR, NIMN, Microsoft Certificate etc.) or vocational training in Computer Repairs and Assembling, Printing, Media Technology, Fashion Design, Electronic Repairs, etc., on the campus. It is the belief  of the University that graduates would prove themselves worthy men and women who are able to use their intellect as adeptly as they can apply their physique.

    It is mandatory for all undergraduate students of Lead City University to register with and pass the examinations of at least one recognised Professional / Vocational trade body during the course of their studentship in the University. It is believed that the additional Professional / vocational qualifications shall enhance students' chances for job competition or self employment.

  2. Flexible Programmes

    The school offers various programmes suitable for both the young adolescents and adult working class. It indeed recognises the need to accomodate the time constraints to individuals and therefore provides flexibility by allowing for a choice between part-time & full-time study schemes. Programmes are offered by specialized faculties in Social Sciences & Entrepreneurial Studies, Information Technology & Applied Sciences and Law.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

UTME Application 

  1. Current UTME results with a score of 150 and above;
  2. 'O' Level results, (SSCE/GCE/WAEC/NECO/NABTEB) or equivalent, showing five (5) credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings; one (1) sitting only for professional courses.
  3. JAMB slip showing the desired course of study and Lead City University as first choice Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Physiotherapy.

Direct Entry 

  1. Those with additional (Direct Entry) qualifications such as University Diploma, NCE, IJMB, OND, GCE 'A' Level or equivalent professional qualification, etc will be admitted into 200 level. 
  2. Candidates awaiting result may apply provided evidence of results would be available before resumption.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

PGD

  • A candidate seeking admission to the Postgraduate Diploma programme of Lead City University must be a graduate of Lead City University or any other University recognized by the Senate of the University. 
  • Candidates with Higher National Diploma (HND) or its equivalent professional qualification (ACA, ANAN, ACIB, ACCA, ACTI etc) will be considered. 
  • The duration of full-time study for the award of PGD is two (2) semesters.

Masters Degree (M.Sc, M.A, MBA)

  • A candidate seeking admission to the Master’s Degree programme of Lead City University must be a graduate of Lead City University or any other University recognized by the Senate of the University, with the minimum of Second Class (Lower Division). 
  • The duration of full-time study for the award of the Master’s degree is 18 months (3 semesters). 
  • Candidates are also to note that there are other requirements that may be specific to a Faculty, Department and /or programme option.

M.Phil

  • A candidate seeking admission to the M.Phil programme in Lead City University must have obtained an M.Sc of Lead City University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lead City University. 
  • The minimum duration for the full-time M.Phil programme is four (4) semesters. 
  • A candidate may, after the first year, transfer to PhD programme provided he has satisfied the conversion requirement with a CGPA of 4.0 or 60% in the course work and presented an acceptable PhD research proposal. 
  • The period spent on M.Phil counts towards fulfilling the minimum duration as required for the Ph.D programme.

Ph.D

  • A candidate seeking admission to the direct PhD Degree programme of Lead City University must have obtained an M.Phil of Lead City University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lead City University, with a CGPA of 4.00 or 60%. 
  • The duration for Ph.D programme is six (6) semesters.

History

The Proprietor of Lead City University, Ibadan is the Eduserve Consult, which has recorded remarkable achievements in promoting educational development at both the Tertiary and non-tertiary levels especially in the City of Ibadan.

The University submitted its application to the National Universities Commission the year 2002. The Standing Committee on Private Universities (SCOPU) conducted the verification and the final assessment visits in August and September, 2003, respectively. he University was “approved for immediate take off” by the Board of NUC in December 2003 as a prelude to the ratification by the Federal Executive Council, which was effected on the 16th of February, 2005.

Though the charter of the University has City University, Ibadan as its name but due to several cases of mistaken identity and in order to avert corporate identity problem, the Board of Trustees and Council of the University had an extra-ordinary meeting on the 7th of March, 2005, and resolved to modify the name to read Lead City University, Ibadan. The change in name was subsequently communicated to the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and other stakeholders while all previous documents relating to City University, Ibadan remain valid.
