They focus on providing industry-relevant education and 97% of their students are in full time work or study within six months of graduating from the conservatoire, with around 80% working in the creative industries (DHLE 2017).

Professor Joe Wilson is Principal of Leeds Conservatoire, the largest small and specialist institution in the UK in terms of student numbers. He leads an innovative institution with a broad offering of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in music and performing arts.
The conservatoire opened in 1965 as Leeds Music Centre, providing a Light Music course with a significant focus on Jazz. They became Leeds College of Music in 1972 and in 1993 launched the first Jazz degree in Europe. In 2004, they then became the first UK conservatoire to offer Popular Music and Music Production.
They have since broadened their diverse portfolio to include performing arts, launching degrees in Musical Theatre, Acting and Actor Musician. In 2020 they became Leeds Conservatoire – reflecting their expertise and specialist approach to music and drama training.
