About

Madonna University, Nigeria is the first Private/Catholic University in Nigeria. Being the first private/Catholic university in Nigeria and a member of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU), we pride ourselves as upholders of the great Catholic education tradition that birthed modern civilization.

With both Ecclesiastical and State approvals, we are the best of our kind, and have over the years sought to improve our standard of teaching and learning, with a view to adapting our students to the education and moral demands of the 21st century – in line with the hopes and aspirations of the Catholic Church.

Madonna University, Nigeria currently operates under three campuses: in 2004 the main management campus was moved to Elele, Rivers State, with the Okija campus remaining one of its campuses, and in 2011 its Akpugo campus, for the engineering and technology sciences, came into full operation.

History

Our story dates back to the late 90s, when Very Rev. Fr. Prof. E.M.P. Edeh CSSp, OFR, founded the prestigious Madonna University. By 1999, she had commenced active operation with the approval of the Federal Government of Nigeria. That year, Madonna University not only became the first private Catholic university in the West African sub-region but also the first private university to be approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria, with its take-off campus at Okija, Anambra State.
