The University Was established under the Nasarawa State Law No. 2 of 2001 (see 2.2) as passed by the State House of Assembly. The University came into existence under the visionary and dynamic administration of Governor. (Dr) Abdullahi Adamu (Sarkin Yakin Keffi now Turakin Keffi, Aare Obateru of the source, Ile-Ife), the first democratically elected Governor of Nasarawa State.
The aim of establishing the University was, fundamentally, to provide an avenue for the indigenes of Nasarawa State to pursue and acquire University education, which in the long run, will prepare the graduates and equip them with adequate skills needed for the development of the state and the country at large.

Possess at least five (5) “O” level credit passes in relevant subjects including English and Mathematics at not more than two (2) sittings.
NOTE: Direct Entry candidates into Community Health, Environmental Health Science and Health Information Management MUST be licensed by their respective professional bodies.

Note: Candidates MUST ensure that their POST-UTME Screening is successful; as only candidates whose Screening Slip is successful shall be considered for admission. Candidates should also note that, phone number used in filling this application MUST be that of the candidate.
UTME and Direct Entry candidates should note that in addition to the above Post-UTME Registration, they are equally required to visit JAMB accredited CBT centres to upload their “O”Level / “A” Level results on their JAMB profile.
Candidates are advised to MONITOR their admission status on their JAMB portal. There would be a grace period of four (4) weeks within which all approved admissions MUST be accepted by the candidates. Failure of a candidate to accept the admission where offered, shall call for the cancellation of such admission, and the candidate would be placed under the “refusal to accept category” and rendered ineligible to be re-admitted.
Note: Candidates should also note that POST-UTME Screening is MANDATORY. Any candidate who FAILS to participate would not be considered for admission.

Accordingly, the Nasarawa State Government organized an education summit on the desirability or otherwise of a State University. The educational summit came out with a conclusion that a Nasarawa State University is not only desirable, but also timely.
The University officially took off for effective academic activities in March 2002, following the appointment of an Interim Administrator (Vice-Chancellor), Professor Adamu Baikie. Today, despite all odds associated with the take-off of the University. The Institution, under the able leadership of Professor Adamu Baikie (CON) and his team, has become a reference point with regard to proper procedure and practice in the University System in Nigeria.
Accordingly, the vision that propelled the establishment of Nasarawa State University is the greatest historical mile-stone in the educational evolution of Nasarawa State and its people.
