About

Nnamdi Azikiwe University is founded on the philosophy that knowledge should be propagated and disseminated to individuals without let or hindrance. Teaching and Research would be anchored on the needs of the Nigerian and International society generally. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, after whom the University is named, stands out clearly in the history of University education in Nigeria and Africa in general. In the discharge of its mission, the University shall live up to the ideals of this renowned statesman, by making University education pragmatic, and using it to forge unity among the various communities in Nigeria and the International community. The future begins here.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University came into being as an offshoot of the defunct Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH). ASUTECH which was established through Law No. 7 of 30th July 1980 by the Government of the old Anambra operated as a multi-campus university, with campuses in Abakiliki, Enugu, Awka, and Nnewi.

In 1991, following the split of the old Anambra State into Anambra and Enugu States, the Awka and Nnewi campuses of the former ASUTECH were constituent into Nnamdi Azikiwe University by the Anambra State Edict No.5 of November 26, 1991. Nnamdi Azikiwe University was taken over by the Federal Government by Decree No. 34 of July 15, 1992.

Mission

The mission of the University is to use teaching, research, and public service to solve social problems. In the process of learning, students would be oriented to use their education in solving practical problems confronting them in the Nigerian society and beyond.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  • All admissions into the University must be through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB);
  • For admission to 100 Level courses (via UTME), candidates must: obtain five (5) credits at SSCE (or equivalent) in relevant subjects, at not more than two (2) sittings, including credit passes in English and Mathematics; and attain acceptable points in UTME in relevant subjects;
  • For admission by Direct Entry (200 Level), candidates shall, in addition to having five (5) SSCE credits, obtain at least two (2) A’ level (or its equivalent) passes in relevant subjects, or possess ND with credit passes, or possess a good first degree in another field as the case may be;

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

The candidate must be a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University with at least a Third-Class degree a related discipline or a minimum of lower Credit in the Higher National Diploma, HND, from a recognized Institution in Agriculture or related discipline

Master’s Degree (MSc)

  1. The candidate must have a first degree in a related course with a CGPA of not less than 2.50 from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University
  2. A candidate with a Postgraduate Diploma in related areas with an CGPA of not less than 3.00 may also be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirements are satisfied

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree

A candidate who holds a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics or Extension and related areas with an FCGPA not less than 3.50 on a 5 Point Scale or an average of 60%, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University may be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirement is satisfied
