About

Plateau State University, Bokkos was established through an instrument of Law in March 2005 and was granted recognition by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on April 29th of the same year 2005 as the 66th University in Nigeria and the 24th state owned University in the Country. The Law Establishing the University is cited as Law No. 4 of 2005 (March 7, 2005) as contained in Plateau State of Nigeria Gazette No. 3, Vol. 11 of May 24, 2006. It is located in Diram Village along the Butura-Tarangol axis in Bokkos Local Government Area, about 70 kilometers away from Jos the State capital.

Although academic activities started in May 2007 with a total of 480 students, such activities were suspended on September 10th of the same year and the students transferred to the University of Jos. The University was, however, re-opened in October 2010 during the 2010/2011 Academic Session with lectures commencing in January 2011.

Mission

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

UTME Candidates

  • You must have chosen Plateau State University, Bokkos, as your first choice institution in the 2025 JAMB UTME.
  • You must have scored 160 or above in the 2025 JAMB UTME. Note that certain programs may have higher differential cut-off points.
  • You must have at least five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in your O-Level exams (WAEC, NECO, etc.) from not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry Candidates

  • You must have chosen Plateau State University, Bokkos, as your first-choice institution in the 2025 JAMB Direct Entry application.
  • You must possess the necessary qualifications, such as a First Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), National Diploma (ND) with a minimum of Lower Credit, or a Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE).
  • You must ensure that your O-Level and A-Level results are uploaded to the JAMB portal.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

  1. Candidates seeking admission into the Postgraduate Programmes of Plateau State University, Bokkos must possess five credit passes, including English and Mathematics, (except those applying to the faculty of Arts where a credit in Mathematics is not mandatory)and other relevant subjects at O’ Level.
  2. Candidates seeking Admission into a Master’s Degree or Postgraduate Diploma of the University must hold a First or Second Class Honours Degree of the University or of other Universities recognized by the Senate of Plateau State University, Bokkos. The first degree must be in a discipline relevant to the programme into which admission is being sought.
  3. Candidates seeking admission into an M.Phil. /Ph.D. programme must also possess a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline. Such candidates are in addition, required to have returned a Weighted Score Average (WSA) of 60% and above in the final assessment result for the Master’s Degree as well as 60% and above in the Research Project.
  4. Applicants who hold a 3rd class or pass degree may be considered provided they possess a Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant area of study.
  5. For all admissions, degree result transcripts and the report of three referees, attesting to the research capability of the candidate must be sent to the Secretary, PG School not later than the closing date for the submission of application.

How To Apply For Admission

  1. Admitted candidates are to pay acceptance and medical screening fee of Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (?25,000.00) only by following the following procedure:
    1. Visit the University portal: sis.plasu.edu.ng
    2. Click Login to access the portal and fill in your Valid/Active Email address and Password as used during the Post UTME/ DE Screening
    3. For card payment, click the button ‘Pay Acceptance Fee’
    4. Click the button “Generate Payment Invoice” and an RRR will be generated
    5. Click the button “Proceed to Payment” to make payment using your card
    6. Pay a non-refundable Acceptance Fee of Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (N 25,000)
    7.  For Cash payments, visit the closest bank, use the RRR to make a deposit. Make sure Plateau State University, Bokkos is the recipient.
  2. Go to Bursary Department with evidence of payment of acceptance/ medical screening fee and obtain receipt/Authentication.
  3. Go to the University Clinic for medical screening and obtain certificate of fitness.
  4. Proceed to the Central Registration Officer in the Academic Affairs Division of the Registry with evidence of payment of acceptance fee and the following documents for screening and clearance:
    1. JAMB UTME or DE Slip
    2. Original O’ Level Result/DE Entry qualification
    3. Original Birth Certificate/Declaration of Age 
    4. Original Indigene Certificate
    5. Two (2) recent Passport Photographs
    6. Medical report from the University Clinic
    7. WAEC/ NECO scratch card for result verification
    8. Complete student’s biodata form (to be issued by Central Registration Officer).
  5. Candidate then proceeds to the faculty where the Faculty Registration Officer checks and screens the documents/qualifications for clearance.
  6. After being cleared by the Faculty Registration Officer, the candidate proceeds to pay Tuition fee (see fee schedule below) through any of the channels as in one (1) above.
  7. The candidate then presents evidence of payment (RRR print out) of tuition fee to the Bursary Department for clearance.
  8. The prospective student proceeds on to the University’s students’ portal through (sis.plasu.edu.ng), where he or she enters details of his or her biodata and print out; after which a matriculation number is generated for the candidate automatically.
  9. Log on to the University portal for Course Registration and then print the completed course Registration Form.
  10. All students should pay the Students Union Government (SUG) yearly dues of One Thousand Naira (?1,000) into UBA Account Number: 2062903163 and submit the evidence of payment to the SUG secretariat. Payment can also be done in cash to the SUG officials at the point of registration.
  11. The candidate returns to the Central Registration Officer at the Academic Affairs Division of the Registry Department to submit photocopies of all credentials listed in (4) above, along with evidence of payment of tuition fees, Copies of Course registration form, Students Information form, Clearance Slip, SUG payment receipt and two (2) recent passport photographs for opening of file.
  12. The candidate’s name is then written in the registration Book by the Registration Officer.
  13. The Candidate reports to Students Affairs Directorate to process his/her accommodation and obtain Students Handbook.
  14. Candidates who have been allocated accommodation will follow the payment procedure as in one (1) above to make payment for the hostel of choice. Take evidence of payment to Bursary to obtain receipt/authentication.
  15. The candidate reports to the Security Division to process and collect his/her identity card.
  16. Candidate reports to the University Library for documentation.
  17. Candidate proceeds to the University Health Services for documentation and opening of file after filing the Health Services Form which can be obtained from the clinic.
  18. All returning students are required to pay their fees using the procedure outlined in 1 and 2 above. Thereafter, register courses online, print five copies of duly completed course forms for processing by the Academic office in the Registry, Faculty Officers and Departmental registration officers.
  19. Any issue arising from the Registration exercise that cannot be resolved by the Registration Officer should be channeled to the Deputy Registrar, Academic Affairs Division, and subsequently to the Registrar, if need be.

Shedrack Best is a Nigerian professor of International Relations and Peace Building and the vice chancellor of the Plateau state University, Bokkos. He was appointed into office on 8 February 2024.
