Admission

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  • Scottish Highers — 3 passes
  • A Levels — 2 passes 
  • International Baccalaureate — minimum score of 24 with 3 subjects at Higher Level 
  • Recognised equivalences (EU and International Entry Requirements) 

Non-standard entry is considered on a case-by-case basis.

English Language Requirement:

  • The required IELTS level for this programme is 7.5 overall, with a 7.5 speaking score and a minimum score of 5.5 in each component.



 

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

The language of study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) is English. All applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide evidence that their English language level meets the entrance requirements.

  • Applications are made through?the UCAS Conservatoires or UCAS Undergraduate websites (see below for which UCAS scheme by programme). Please note the UCAS Conservatoires application system is separate from the main UCAS undergraduate application system.
  • Applicants will also be required to create an Accepted account when applying, which will be used for scheduling interviews/auditions. If you do not have an Acceptd account, we will not be able to schedule your audition

  • Cafeteria: Home to 180,000 students, Glasgow caters extremely well for its large proportion of the population on a budget.?Our own?cafe bar?serves hot food from breakfast through to the end of the day and always includes a vegetarian selection.
  • Accommodation: On this page you will find information to help you find accommodation for during your studies at RCS. We have information about Base Glasgow, our recommended halls for RCS students, as well as other private accommodation options available to you. There is also some useful information about recommended location and council tax.
  • Library: The Whittaker Library contains one of the most comprehensive collections of performance materials for music, dance, drama, production and film in the UK and internationally. We offer a mix of print and electronic content and it’s all searchable via our Library Discovery Service.
  • ICT: The student IT Lab is located on the ground floor of the building in the Alexander Gibson Opera Studio and is equipped with 22 PCs in the Atrium area and 18 iMacs in the lab area. The IT facilities also extend to a selection of PCs in the study spaces located in the Library. All student network computers have the following software

Vice Chancellor

Professor Jeffrey Sharkey

Pianist and composer, Professor Jeffrey Sharkey, became Principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in September 2014, leading Scotland’s national conservatoire of dance, drama, music, production and screen. History

We have been teaching the performing arts in Glasgow since 1847. Building on our roots as a national academy of music, we have grown over the past 175 years to be one of the most interdisciplinary and collaborative institutions in the world and are consistently ranked within the world’s top 10 performing arts institutions (QS World Rankings).
