History

SUN was granted operational license by National Universities Commission (NUC) in May this year. From the humble beginning in 1990 when it was first established and known as Skyline Institute Sharjah, SUC has recorded several ups and downs in its long history and is today regarded as one of the finest universities in the northern emirates.

The university has also changed its name twice.

The first was in 1993 when it transformed from the pioneer name to Skyline College and the second in 2000 when it changed to SUC.

However, the university’s choice of Sharjah as base is symbolic in many ways.

The city is the third largest in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) behind Dubai ... read more

and Abu Dhabi. It is also recognized as hub for education, culture and heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Sharjah is regarded by many as undisputed cultural capital of the Arab world.

The name “University City” was coined largely to the plethora of several institutions including the University of Sharjah, American University of Sharjah, Skyline College Sharjah, Westford School of Management, Exeed School of Business and Finance, among others, in Sharjah.

The city also plays host to colleges of varying sizes and shapes.

Following the Ministry Of Higher Education (MOHE) approval, the SUC commenced full operations in 1993 with two Programmemes – Advance Diploma In Information Technology and Bachelor degree In Information Systems.

The university started a Bachelor degree Programmeme in Marketing and International Business in 1996 and introduced Master in Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing and Finance the following year.

The university launched the bid to move to its permanent campus by inviting the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) team to the project site in 1997. Officials of Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) visited the site a year later to assess the project quality.

In 1999, it commenced full Bachelor degree Programmemes in Travel and Tourism Management, Information Systems, International Business and Marketing after approval by NCA.

It secured license to operate in the field of higher education in 2000 and commenced Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and MBA Programmemes in 2005 following accreditation and approval by MOHESR.
