Licensed by the Federal Government under the close supervision of the National Universities Commission (NUC) on May 17th, 2007, Tansian University is determined to actualize its vision of being a dynamic institution with the noble philosophy of inculcating sound, high quality education, without compromising any moral issue. And since inception, the University has continued to offer relevant academic programmes designed to produce highly qualified graduates that will be acceptable locally and globally and young men and women imbued with love of universal truth for the benefit of mankind. So far, we are consistently pursuing excellence and effectiveness in teaching with a view to producing knowledgeable and skilled graduates equipped to make positive contributions towards the resolution of societal ills.

Objectives

1. To complement Government efforts by providing facilities for learning and to give holistic instruction and training in such branches of knowledge as the University may desire to foster, and in doing so, to enable the students obtain the advantages of a morally based liberal education, open to all, irrespective of nationality, ethnic derivation, social status, gender, religious or political persuasion;
2. To promote, through research and other morally acceptable means, the advancement of knowledge and its functional application to social, cultural, economic, scientific and technological problems oriented towards development, peace and human progress;
3. To create employment opportunity in Nigeria through attraction, retention and development of top quality core faculty (academic staff) that is committed to true scholarship as well as competent and skillful non-teaching staff.

Reasons to Study at Tansian University

1. Academic Support

   With a view to enriching the curriculum, the University has established some academic support units to facilitate the academic departments in their direct teaching areas. Each academic support unit is established to facilitate learning and assist students in attaining the objective of a ‘total man’ fully equipped to face the challenges of life outside the university environment.

2. Entrepreneurial Skills

   Tansian University, because of its distinctive posture, has also made it mandatory for its students to earn credit units in entrepreneurial skills. These requirements provide opportunity for students to have some knowledge of other disciplines apart from their areas of specialization and also learn some trades that can be of benefit to them in the future.

3. Accredited Programs

    Tansian University offers a wide array of NUC-accredited undergraduate programs, spanning faculties such as Natural & Applied Sciences, Management & Social Sciences, Education, Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences, and Law. It also provides part-time Continuous Education Programmes (CEP) tailored for working students.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

All candidates applying for admission into any of the undergraduate programmes must:

• Possess the academic qualifications as specified by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board for Course of choice.
• Achieve at least the approved minimum pass mark in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations.

Note: Candidate who sat for the who did not indicate Tansian University in any of their choices are eligible to apply.

There is Direct Entry Admission for NCE holders for two/three Year Degree Programmes in the Faculty of Education.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

The following may qualify for Postgraduate Diploma admission:

1. Graduates ofTansian University or other recognized universities/Institutions who have obtained a degree of bachelor with at least a third-class honours with at least a 2.0 GPA on a 5-point scale.
2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with a 3.50 Grade Point Average on a five-point scale or its equivalent may be admitted. Candidates with professional qualifications, including HND, should have obtained pre-professional qualifications, including 5 credits in WASC or GCE O/L or NECO to satisfy the basic University entry requirement, for admission for degree courses in their respective departments.
3. In addition to (i) or (ii) above, in special cases, candidates may be admitted after passing such tests as may be prescribed by the Department/Faculty.
4. Candidates who hold other qualifications considered equivalent to the above and acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate Studies and Senate of the University may be admitted.

MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME

The following shall qualify for Master’s Degree admission:

1. Graduates of Tansian University or of other recognized universities/Institutions who have obtained the Bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines with at least a second class honours with not less than 2.50 GPA;
2. Candidates with relevant Postgraduate Diplomas from the Tansian University or any other recognized university/Institutions with at least credit level passes with a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale or 3.0 on 4-point scale;

DOCTORATE DEGREE (PhD.) PROGRAMME

The following shall qualify for PhD admission

1. Candidates who have obtained Master’s degree appropriate for the proposed areas of study shall qualify for Doctorate Degree admission
2. Candidates must possess a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale, GPA of 3.0 on 4-point scale for admission into Ph.D programme

Application Forms are obtainable on this website (Online Application) and from the Admissions' Office, Tansian University, Umunya (Umunya/Oba Campuses), on payment of N10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira) only, into the Tansian University Umunya Bank Account No. 4091963018 at any branch of Polaris Bank Plc Nationwide.

FORMS PURCHASED FROM THE SCHOOL: All Application Forms should be returned to the Registrar, Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State. Presentation of Original Evidence of form payment is also required.

History

Quite unlike most tertiary institutions, Tansian University was not born out of a desire to make name and acquire material wealth, but to fulfill an innate desire to develop youths and empower them for the challenges of a changing world. To achieve this, the Father-Founder Very Rev. Msgr Prof. John Bosco Akam started the development process from kindergarten, primary to secondary schools education as well as the destitute and physically challenged institutions which explain why he is popularly known as Father of Enlighten and Legend of Education.
