Taraba State University (TSU) is a public higher education institution located in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, Nigeria. Established in 2008, TSU was founded to meet the educational needs of the state and contribute to Nigeria’s overall academic growth and development.

Mission

The mission of Taraba State University is to serve as an institution for intellectual development whose ideal is training men and women to acquire appropriate skills, abilities, and competence, both mental and physical, as well as inculcating the right type of values and attitudes for the wellbeing of the society in general.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  1. You must select TSU as your first choice in your Joint?Admissions?and?Matriculation?Board (JAMB) UTME registration. 
  2. You must obtain at least five (5) credits in your O-Level (WAEC, NECO, GCE, etc.), including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings. 
  3. You must meet the UTME cut-off mark set by TSU for your programme (for example, the general cut-off mark reported for 2025/2026 is 160. 
  4. For Direct Entry (DE) applicants: You must have a relevant qualification (ND, NCE, Advanced Level, etc.) with at least a lower credit or equivalent.
  5. You must participate in TSU’s Post-UTME/Screening exercise when invited.

Supporting Documents

  1. Your O-Level result certificate(s) showing the required credit passes (original and photocopies).
  2. Your JAMB/UTME result slip.
  3. Birth certificate or sworn declaration of age.
  4. Indigene or State of Origin certificate (if required by the university).
  5. Recent passport-sized photographs.
  6. For Direct Entry: the result/certificate of your ND/NCE/A-level or equivalent qualification.
  7. Completed online application/registration form for Post-UTME/screening on TSU portal.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

  1. You must have at least five (5) credits in O-Level including English Language and Mathematics in not more than two sittings. 
  2. For Master’s programmes (M.A, M.Sc, M.Ed etc.): You must hold a Bachelor’s degree (from a recognized institution) with at least a Second Class Lower Division (2:2) or its equivalent.
  3. For Ph.D. programmes: You must hold a Master’s degree (or as specified) with a minimum weighted average (for example, 3.5 out of 5.0) or 50 % in your previous degree.
  4. For Postgraduate Diploma (PGD): You must possess a Bachelor’s degree (minimum of third class) or HND with at least a lower credit, in a relevant field.

Supporting Documents

  1. Bachelor’s degree certificate (and for HND/PGD candidates: HND certificate) and results/transcripts.
  2. O-Level certificate showing your five credits including English and Mathematics.
  3. Application form (online) and payment of the non-refundable application/registration fee (e.g., N15,000 – N20,000 depending on session).
  4. Passport-sized photographs.
  5. Research proposal/synopsis (for research-based programmes such as Master’s by research or Ph.D).
  6. For Ph.D: evidence of Master’s degree performance, relevant research/relevant experience.
  7. Other supporting documents: state of origin/indigene certificate, birth certificate or declaration of age, etc.

How To Apply For Admission

  1. Visit the TSU application portal: apply.tsuniversity.edu.ng/register.php apply.tsuniversity.edu.ng
  2. Create an account using your JAMB registration number (or other details), valid email address and phone number.
  3. Log in, fill in the online form with your biodata (schools attended, O’ Level results, JAMB/UTME details, state of origin, etc.).
  4. Upload required scanned documents (e.g., O’Level results, JAMB result slip, birth certificate/declaration of age, state of origin certificate) through the portal.
  5. Make the payment of the screening/application fee via the e-payment gateway using card (Visa/MasterCard/Verve) or other accepted method. 
  6. After successful payment and submission, print your payment receipt and acknowledgement slip. Keep them for your records. 
  7. Monitor your email, account and the university website for updates on screening status and admission lists.
  8. Ensure you complete the process before the deadline

Professor Sunday Paul Bako

With more than three decades of work experience in the University system, Prof. S. P. Bako started his career as a Graduate Assistant with the Department of Biological Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1987. He rose through the ranks and became a Professor in 2006. Before he was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University on 1st March 2022, the astute University administrator was the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Kwararafa University Wukari.
