Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is a music, dance, and musical theatre conservatoire based in South East London. It was formed in 2005 as a merger of two older institutions – Trinity College of Music and Laban Dance Centre

Mission

The Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance's mission statement is: "Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is an international artistic and educational community that brings together performers and practitioners to train, collaborate, research and perform in inspiring creative, intellectual and physical spaces,"

  • IELTS (General or Academic Training) minimum 5.5 in all four areas; or B2 First (Cambridge English) minimum 160 in all four areas; or Trinity College London – Integrated Skills in English level II or above. 

 


International Students: 

  • English language requirements: All undergraduate degree level programme entry (including CertHE, BA, BMus, and BSc) – minimum of IELTS 5.5 in all 4 areas / Trinity College London – Integrated Skills in English II (ISEII)

Library: Our Laban Library offers the largest and most varied open-access specialist research collection on dance and related subjects in the UK, covering many aspects of dance in a variety of formats and languages. 

Accommodation: We know that moving to London can also feel daunting. Our Student Services team are experts in supporting you to find accommodation that suits your budget, your lifestyle and your needs. We can advise on student accommodation in Halls of Residence (Dorms) and in private rentals. We can also support you if you have access requirements or need additional support to transition to life in London.

Laurie Grove: Located in bustling New Cross, South East London, Laurie Grove was the original home of the Laban Centre. The building has undergone significant refurbishment and is now the hub for Musical Theatre training at Trinity Laban. There are a variety of large open spaces perfect for dance classes and rehearsals, including two performance labs with adjacent dressing rooms, as well as intimate vocal studios which provide more private spaces for one-on-one classes. 

  • 7 studios (including 2 of Trinity Laban’s largest studios) 
  • 2 dedicated vocal studios 
  • 2 Performance Labs 
  • Dressing rooms and green rooms 
  • Computer suite.

Musical Theatre: Students’ showcase performances are staged at dedicated London theatres including external venues, such as Stratford Circus and Leicester Square Theatre in London’s West End, as well as Trinity Laban’s own Blackheath Halls, and the Laban Theatre, both of which are which are easily accessible from Laurie Grove by foot or public transport.

History

Trinity College of Music and Laban become officially renamed as the Faculty of Music and Faculty of Dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

2007
Trinity College of Music affiliation with University of Sussex lapses and MMus in Performance Studies phased out. FdA in Musical Theatre: Performance in collaboration successfully validated by University of Westminster for period of three years.

2006
Trinity College of Music re-recognised by University of Westminster as affiliated institution and Memorandum of Collaboration with University of Westminster renegotiated and agreed. BMus (Hons) Performance successfully revalidated by U... read more

niversity of Westminster for period of five years. Introduction of Indian Classical music pathway through BMus (Hons) Performance by University of Westminster, validated for period of four years. Memorandum of Collaboration with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, UK Centre and University of Westminster negotiated and agreed.  MMus in Performance / Composition / Creative Practice successfully validated by University of Westminster for period of three years.

2005
Laban merges with Trinity College of Music to form Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance – the first conservatoire for music and dance in the UK.

2004
Revised Memorandum and Articles of Association for Trinity Laban approved by Privy Council and Charity Commission. PGCE Secondary ‘Musicians in Education’ commenced, in collaboration with and also validated by the University of Greenwich.

Conservatoires UK formed with Principals of UK conservatoires (initially BC, LCM, RCM, RNCM, RSAMD, RWCMD and TCM only) serving as Directors of company limited by guarantee. TCM agreed to Memorandum of Association with Conservatoires UK to assist in creation of CUKAS online application service.

Diploma in Dance Theatre subsumed within the BA (Hons) Dance Theatre programme at Laban. Marion North honoured with CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in recognition of her services to dance. Anthony Bowne becomes Principal of Laban on the retirement of Dr Marion North.

2003
Official opening of the new Laban Building by Rt. Hon Tessa Jowell, MP, Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport. Laban Building awarded RIBA Stirling Prize for Architecture.

2003
Acquisition by Trinity College of Music of Blackheath Halls concert venue.

2002
Laban’s postgraduate Masters programmes extended to include Choreography, European Dance Theatre Practice, Dance Performance (Transitions Dance Company), Dance Science. Foundation of journal, Discourses in Dance.

New Laban Building in Creekside, Deptford opens, architects Herzog & de Meuron. New corporate identity launched and change of name to Laban.

2002
Trinity College of Music is re-recognised by University of Sussex as an affiliated institution. MMus in Performance Studies is successfully revalidated for a period of five years.

2001
Trinity College of Music relocates from Mandeville Place in Marylebone to the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich. The Jerwood Library of the Performing Arts is formed.
