  • Classrooms: The classroom facility consists of a 500-seater lecture theatre, a 250-seater interactive lecture theatre, 10 seminar rooms for 30 students at a time, learning spaces for hundreds of students, which will include areas for individual study, collaborative group work and creative break-out sessions.
  • Library: The library holds over 1.5 million print and 898,000 online books, and more than 133,000 print and online journals. The staff provides advice, training and specialist support to help students and staff at all stages of their learning and research journey.
  • Laboratory: The laboratory offers users a 45 sqm wet-lab stocked with the consumables and equipment needed for NMR sample preparation; access to other biophysical tools can also be arranged.

History

The University of Birmingham grew out of the radical vision of their first Chancellor, Joseph Chamberlain. Founded in 1825 as the Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery and received its royal charter in 1900, the University was England’s first civic university, a place where students from all backgrounds were accepted on an equal basis.
