The University of Bradford is a public research university located in the city of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. A plate glass university, it received its royal charter in 1966, making it the 40th university to be created in Britain, but can trace its origins back to the establishment of the industrial West Yorkshire town's Mechanics Institute in 1832.

  • Library: Situated in the JB Priestley Building, the University of Bradford Library is available to students and staff.
  • Laboratory: Bradford has many health, life science, engineering and informatics research and teaching facilities housing world-class standard equipment for business to benefit from.  These can be utilised through academic research activity and some can be booked for independent use.
  • Accommodation: The University of Bradford does not own or operate its own student accommodation. However, accommodation can be found with the University's preferred student accommodation provider at The Green. The Green is conveniently close to our campus, and if you would like to live there.
  • Sports: The University of Bradford Students’ Union has over 30 sports clubs to choose from. These include football, swimming, mixed martial arts, and archery.
  • Gym: On-campus at the University of Bradford, Unique Fitness membership gives you access to the gym, swimming pool, racket sports, climbing wall and classes. They have membership options for students, staff and public members.
  • Place of Worship: If you're in need of pastoral care, spiritual or religious support, the chaplaincy is here for you, whether you are a student or staff member, from all faiths and none. History

The university's origins date back to the Mechanics Institute, founded in 1832, formed in response to the need in the city for workers with skills relevant to the workplace. In 1882, the institute became the Bradford Technical College. In 1957 the Bradford Institute of Technology was established as a College of Advanced Technology to take over the advanced work of Bradford Technical College. The Robbins Committee recommended in 1963 that CATs should receive university status, and the University of Bradford received its Royal Charter on 18 October 1966.
