About

The Cross River University of Technology was established in August 2002 by Cross River State Bill No. 9 recently amended as Bill No. 6 of 2004. The Cross River University of Technology is an outcome of a merger of three former tertiary institutions (The Polytechnic, Calabar, the College of Education, Akamkpa and the Ibrahim Babangida College of Agriculture, Ovonum, Obubra) owned by the Cross River State Government. The university is established primarily to provide basic training and research and to impart research skills to equip Nigerians of various backgrounds in all areas of technology. Emphasis is however placed on catchment areas of the university to enable the exploitation of the enormous natural resources for sustainable development of Cross River State. The university is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  1. Only Candidates who scored 150 and above and chose UNICROSS as their First Choice in the 2025 UTME Examination are eligible for the Screening.
  2. Candidates are not required to appear physically for the screening and therefore not expected to travel to Calabar or any other Campuses of the University.
  3. Candidates are to note the location of the campus where their course(s) of interest are domicile before proceeding to register.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

PGD, MASTERS

  • For the Masters programme, Candidate must possess a minimum of second class lower division at Bachelor’s dergree level and/or a PGD with a minimum score of 60% relevant to the course of study from a recognized university.
     
  • The PGD candidate must possess a minimum of HND (Pass or Lower Credit as applicable) relevant to the course of study and a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
     

P.hD 

  • Candidate must possess a Master’s degree with a minimum score of 60% relevant to the course of study from a recognized university.

How To Apply For Admission

Step 1: Visit University Website

  • Go to the UNICROSS official website at www.unicross.edu.ng.

Step 2: Locate Admission Link

  • Click on the “PostUTME” tab or locate the direct link to the undergraduate admission portal.

Step 3: Fill Application Form

  • Follow the instructions on the Online Application Portal to complete the form. Candidates are required to pay the sum of Two Thousand (N2,000.00) Naira Screening Fee, payable online with either Master/Visa/Verve ATM Card or in any commercial bank through Remita via the School online application Portal.
  • Fill out the application form with accurate personal and academic details, including Full name, Date of birth, Contact information, JAMB registration number, O’Level results (WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB).

Step 4: Submit & Print Application Slip

  • Review your application for accuracy.
  • Click on “Submit” to complete the process.
  • After submission, print the application confirmation slip as proof of your application.

History

University of Cross River State also known as UNICROSS is a state-owned tertiary institution with four campuses spread across four Local Government Areas of the state. The University was formerly known as the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH). It was renamed in February of 2021 by a bill passed at Cross River State House of Assembly which was then approved by the former Governor of the State, Benedict Ayade. The change of the tertiary institution's name was to enable the varsity function as a conventional University, which provides the opportunity to offer more professional courses rather focusing on tech-related courses. The University took back the indigenous name of the state which was held by the University of Cross River State, Uyo now the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria till 1st October 1991 when the Federal government of Nigeria established the University of Uyo as a Federal University after the separation of the Akwa Ibom Region from Cross River State in 1987. The University of Uyo inherited students, staff, academic programmes and the entire facilities of the then University of Cross River State established by Cross River State in 1983.

The Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the Bursar are all located in the Calabar Campus, considered the main campus of the Institution, which is located in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State in Southern Nigeria. The University was established in 2002 by the then Governor Donald Duke by merging three higher institutions: The Polytechnic of Calabar, The College of Education, and Ibrahim Babangida College of Agriculture. It offers degree courses at undergraduate and post graduate levels. The university currently has campuses in Calabar, Obubra, Ogoja and Okuku.
