The University of Roehampton, London, formerly Roehampton Institute of Higher Education, is a public university in the United Kingdom, situated on three major sites in Roehampton, in the London Borough of Wandsworth. The University traces its roots to four institutions founded in the 1800s, which today make up the university's constituent colleges, around which student accommodation is centred: Digby Stuart College, Froebel College, Southlands College and Whitelands College.

  • Classrooms: You'll be learning in teaching spaces, computer rooms, and lecture theatres but for some of our courses you'll study in more specialised facilities to ensure you gain the hands-on practical skills you need.
  • Library: Opened in September 2017, their library houses hundreds of thousands of books, over 1,000 seats, bookable private study rooms, silent study areas, and dedicated spaces for postgraduate and research students. The Library also provides access to a vast range of online resources, including thousands of e-books, journals, and databases, available anytime, anywhere. They offer high-speed Wi-Fi throughout and contactless borrowing to make checking out books as easy as possible.
  • Accommodation: If you decide to live on campus, you will have all the facilities on your doorstep, plus WIFI, content insurance, utility bills and laundry included as part of your accommodation fee, Secure bike storage and free parking, An on-campus NHS GP surgery (Student Medical Centre), Digby Shop on campus with all the essentials from biscuits to washing up liquid, The Post Room in Richardson building, A Gym, 24/7 security and private rooms with individual locks, On-site support with campus wardens and flat reps, and of course endless green space with central London just 30 minutes away!
  • Sports: At Roehampton, they offer a wide range of sport and physical activity opportunities for all students.   • Gym: The on-campus gym is run by Nuffield Health and is fully stocked with the latest equipment, including a brand new functional zone.
  • Place of Worship: Roehampton has a diverse community of people from all faiths and none. To reflect this and support students, the university's multifaith chaplaincy offers faith spaces for worship as well as cosy lounge areas available to all students.
  • Cafeteria: Roehampton has a range of bars, cafes, social spaces and catering outlets to suit all tastes. College kitchens are available, so commuting students can store and heat their food.

History

The university has its roots in the traditions of its four constituent colleges, all of which were founded in the 19th century as women's teacher training colleges.  All four colleges were founded to address the need to educate poor and disadvantaged children. In 1976, the four colleges joined to form the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education. Its first Rector was Kevin Keohane, the former Professor of Science Education at Chelsea College of Science and Technology.

Since 2011, the university has been branded the University of Roehampton. However, its legal name remains Roehampton University. In 2012 the last college, Whitelands, was legally merged with the university, bringing ... read more
