Undergraduate Admission Requirement

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

  • You’ll normally need a good first degree with Honours from a UK university, or its overseas equivalent. Read the entry requirements and country information for more details.

  • Sports: Sport is a valued aspect of student life in St Andrews. With over 50 sports clubs and 100 sports teams to choose from, as well as a varied and dynamic programme of fitness classes, it is easy to fit sport and exercise into your life at University.
  • Library: The University possesses a wide variety of books, both old and new. Many of these are housed in the Main University Library, and elsewhere in smaller libraries around the town. Students also have access to over 210,000 rare printed books from University Collections.
  • Cafeteria: The University has a number of cafes which are open to staff, students and the general public. Whether you’re looking for a coffee to take away or a filling lunch in a convenient location, the University cafes have a range of options available.
  • Place of Worship: The University has two chapels, St Salvator's Chapel and St Leonard's Chapel. These chapels, both of which date back to the 15th century, are the central points for most University services of worship. 
  • ICT: While the School's computing labs are well equipped with powerful and up-to-date PC workstations, there are also desks where personal laptops can be used with a monitor. Each lab desk has access to a power socket for charging personal devices.
  • Gym: Their contemporary refurbished gym provides a modern, vibrant and inspiring training environment, split into five distinct areas catering for cardio, free weights, fixed weights, stretching and functional training.
  • Accommodation: St Andrews has more than 4,000 bed spaces and a variety of accommodation to suit various tastes and budgets. Students can choose to live in University managed houses and apartments or rent privately in St Andrews and the surrounding area.

Vice Chancellor

Professor Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE

Dame Sally graduated from Wadham College, Oxford, with first-class honours in English Language and Literature in 1978. She then worked as an editor at Weidenfeld and Nicolson publishing house. She returned to Oxford and attained her DPhil in 1986 for a thesis on the advice to princes tradition in Older Scots Literature.

History

In 1410, a group of Augustinian clergy, driven from the University of Paris by the Avignon schism and from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge by the Anglo-Scottish Wars, formed a society of higher learning in St Andrews, offering courses of lectures in divinity, logic, philosophy, and law.
