The Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (formerly University of Sokoto) is one of the four Universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in September 1975 , at which time three University Colleges (now full-fledged Universities) were established.

The development of the university started on a temporary site (now called City Campus), situated along Sultan Abubakar Road, Sokoto. classes started in October 20th, 1977, with an initial enrolment of ninety-three undergraduate students for the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts/Science in Education and Bachelor of Science; and an academic staff strength of thirty-three.

In January, 1978, one hundred and two students enrolled for a two-year pre-Degree Programme in the Humanities and Basics Sciences. With this modest start, the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto formally graduated a total of seventy-two students during its first convocation held in November 22nd, 1980.

Presently, there are Ten faculties and a postgraduate school in the University. The faculties are: Agriculture, Arts and Islamic Studies, College of Health Sciences, Education and Extention Services, Law, Management Sciences, pharmaceutical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. As the development programme is actively pursued, the following Faculties will be established: Food Sciences and Engineering.

The University statute established the Center for Islamic Studies in 1982. Its aim, among others, is to promote the study of and research in islam, Its instructions and related disciplines and its culture with special reference to the northern states of Nigeria. The Center runs a Diploma programme in Islamic Studies, which started in 1983, to assist in the manpower development of the locality and the country at large. the Center also runs Certificate Courses in Arabic and Islamic Studies.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

  1. Applicant must have a minimum of five (5) credit passes at O’Level (WAEC, NECO, or GCE), which must include English Language, Mathematics, and three additional subjects relevant to your chosen course.
  2. Applicants must  achieve at least the minimum UTME cut-off score.
  3. After meeting O’Level and UTME requirements, you must participate in the university’s Post-UTME screening exercise to be considered for admission.
  4. JUPEB/Matriculation Candidates from the university’s Matriculation Programme are evaluated based on their remedial performance and placed appropriately in degree programs.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

All Candidates for admission into Ph.D, M.Phil/Ph.D, M. A., M.Ed., M.Sc. and LLM Programmes must provide records of their Academic Transcripts.

  1. Candidate for admission into Ph.D/ M.Phil programmes shall have M. A., M.Ed., M.Sc and LLM Degrees in the relevant areas with CGPA of not less than 4.0 on a scale of 5.0 from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto or any other recognized University.
  2. Candidates for admission into M.A., M.Ed., M.Sc. and LL.M programmes shall have: a minimum of a Good Second Class Lower Degree in the relevant areas from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto or any recognized University.
  3. Candidates for admission into Postgraduate Diploma Programmes should possess the following:
    1. Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower Credit pass in relevant area
    2. Third Class Degree in relevant areas.
    3. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above which are acceptable to the Board of the College of Postgraduate Studies and Senate of the University.
    4. In addition to (i) to (iii) above, a candidate must satisfy the University's Matriculation requirements
  4. Candidates for admission into Masters in Public Health must:
    1. Have MBBS Degree of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, or an equivalent Medical Degree from a recognized University
  5. Candidates for admission into College of Health Sciences, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Science and Veterinary Medicine, must have 'O'level credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

How To Apply For Admission

Undergraduate Application 

  1. Sit for UTME and choose Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUSOK) as your preferred institution.
  2. Check the JAMB cut-off mark and UDUSOK departmental requirements to be sure you qualify.
  3. Visit the UDUSOK Post-UTME portal (when admission opens): udusok.edu.ng.
  4. Create an account using your JAMB Registration Number.
  5. Generate payment invoice (Remita RRR) and pay the Post-UTME screening fee online or at a bank.
  6. Log back in to the portal with your JAMB number and RRR to access the screening form.
  7. Fill out the online form with your personal details, O’Level results, and course of choice.
  8. Upload your documents (passport photo, O’Level results, JAMB result slip, etc.).
  9. Submit your application and print the Acknowledgement Slip.
  10. Check your admission status regularly on both UDUSOK portal and JAMB CAPS.
  11. If admitted, accept your admission on JAMB CAPS and then proceed with UDUSOK registration.

Postgraduate Application 

  1. Confirm you’re eligible (programme requirements & O’Level combos). 
  2. Go to the PG portal: pg.udusok.edu.ng
  3. Create an account (New Applicant ? fill all fields). 
  4. Generate payment invoice (Remita) from the portal. 
  5. Pay the application fee (online or at bank) using the Remita RRR. 
  6. Verify your payment on the PG portal to get your Application No. 
  7. Log in with Application No. and complete the form (bio, programme, qualifications). 
  8. Upload required documents (certificates, O’Level, NYSC, passport). 
  9. Enter referees’ details (as required by your programme). 
  10. Arrange your official transcripts to be sent directly to the College of Postgraduate Studies. 
  11. Submit (Declaration page) and print your acknowledgement/info page. 
  12. Track your application status on the portal and via email/SMS; follow any screening/interview instructions.

Currently Prof. (Mrs) Halima Usman is a Reader in Computational Fluid Dynamics, lecturing in the Department of Mathematics, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. Her major research interest are Heat and Mass transfer, MHD flows, Viscous fluids, Chemical and Thermal Radiation, Casson fluids and Nano fluids. In November 1982, the Sokoto Energy Reserach Center was established at the instance of the Federal Government. The Center was created not only to execute research in solar energy, but also to train and develop manpower in that area.
