Professor Leon is honoured to lead Australia’s leading regional university at a time when the regions are playing an increasingly visible and important national role.
Prior to joining Charles Sturt in 2022, Professor Brown was the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Western Australia (UWA). The position was responsible for the strategic leadership of curriculum and course design, as well as academic quality assurance and TEQSA compliance. His other roles at UWA included Head of the School of Social Sciences and Dean of Postgraduate Coursework.
Lewis holds a PhD in psychology and expertise in the behavioural sciences. Lewis has published extensively on animal behaviour, farm animal welfare, criminology and experimental psychology in high-quality international journals. Lewis has a strong research background in psychology, with international recognition and awards, as well as publications and grants in diverse and applied fields. He is known for his commitment to a collaborative and innovative approach to teaching and learning, involving the application of new technologies and evidence-based methods to improve the student experience.
Prior to joining Charles Sturt, Michelle was the Deputy Registrar of the Australian Business Registry Services at the Australian Taxation Office. In this role, Michelle was accountable for overseeing all of Australia’s corporate and business registry services, including nine million Australian Business Number holders and three million companies.
Charles Napier Sturt was one of the most important explorers in early Australian history. Sturt sailed to NSW in 1827 and began exploring the region. Charles Sturt University dates back to 1892, when the Wagga Experiment Farm was established. Regional institutions in south-western and western NSW were progressively merged, and Charles Sturt University was formally incorporated on 19 July 1989.
