History

Concordia University was founded on August 24, 1974, through the merger of two institutions: Loyola College, established in 1896, and Sir George Williams University, founded in 1926. The university's name is derived from Montreal's motto, "Concordia salus". The merger created a new public university that now has two campuses, an urban one at the former Sir George Williams site and a suburban one at Loyola.
