  • Library: Emily Carr University of Art and Design has a Library + Archives that provides resources like borrowing, databases, and interlibrary loans. It is open to students, faculty, and alumni, and supports independent and collaborative creativity through its collections and services. 
  • Laboratory: Emily Carr University of Art and Design (ECU) has several specialized labs, including a Basically Good Media Lab (BGML), a Health Design Lab, a DESIS Lab, and a Material Matters research area focused on 3D printing. These labs support research and student projects across various disciplines, from animation and interactive media to social design and health challenges.
  • Cafeteria: The Caf is an all-inclusive, laid-back spot, offering a selection of bowls, burgers, burritos, and more. Serving the general public in addition to students, faculty and staff, they have a patio with views of the North Shore mountains.

History

Formerly established by the British Columbia Art League as the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts in 1925, the school was renamed the Vancouver School of Art in 1933. In 1978, the school was designated a provincial institute and incorporated as the Emily Carr College of Art and Design before moving to Granville Island in 1980. In 1995, a second building was opened on the Granville Island campus, at which time the college's name changed to the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (ECIAD).
