  • Classrooms: MacEwan University has classrooms in various sizes, including smaller ones that accommodate 10–50 people and larger ones that can hold 30–100 people. These classrooms vary in layout and are equipped with technology to support a blend of traditional and hands-on learning. 
  • Library: Located on Treaty 6 territory and considered the heart of campus, MacEwan University's John L. Haar Library spans two city blocks and two floors.
  • Research Center: MacEwan University has a dedicated Office of Research Services (ORS) that supports and coordinates research activities across the university, rather than a single, central research center.
  • Accommodation: MacEwan University offers various housing options for students and guests, including on-campus residence halls with different suite types and guest accommodation available during the summer. Students also have off-campus options like homestays and private rentals. 
  • Sports: MacEwan University has sports facilities, including the Christenson Family Centre for Sport & Wellness with workout areas and personal trainers, and the MacEwan Sport and Wellness facility which features a 25-meter pool, climbing wall, hot tub, and steam rooms. Student athletes on the Griffins teams have access to these amenities.
  • Gym: MacEwan University has gym facilities, including the Fitness Centre, the David Atkinson Gymnasium, and a variety of other amenities included with student tuition. The Fitness Centre offers a 12,000-square-foot space with cardio and weight equipment, as well as studios for classes like yoga, Pilates, and spin. The David Atkinson Gymnasium is used for university sports, drop-in sports, and large events.
  • Place of Worship: The Spiritual Reflection Room is an inclusive, multi-faith, non-denominational reflection space available to all MacEwan students, staff and faculty for individual practice. Whether you seek a quiet moment for personal reflection, meditation, prayer or just to decompress, this space is here to support your spiritual and emotional well-being.
  • ICT: The library has computer workstations available for registered students, staff, and faculty. We also have monitors available if you want to connect your laptop.
  • Cafeteria: MacEwan Eats takes pride in providing a wide range of fresh and healthy food options on campus. Whether you want a quick bite or a sit-down meal, a wide range of cuisines and delicious choices are available at cafeterias, food kiosks, franchise and locally-owned outlets across campus.

Dr. Annette Trimbee

Dr. Annette Trimbee is the sixth president and vice-chancellor of MacEwan University. Prior to joining MacEwan in 2020, Dr. Trimbee served as president and vice-chancellor of the University of Winnipeg.

History

Established in 1971 as Grant MacEwan Community College, the institution was named after Dr. J. W. Grant MacEwan, author, educator and at the time the lieutenant governor of Alberta. The college was established by the Government of Alberta to fill a perceived need for college-level programs that focused on career development. Initial educational offerings included one and two-year certificate and diploma programs.
