  • Place of Worship: The Spiritual Care and Learning Centre is located in the McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC), in room 212. Their office hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. between September and April, and by appointment between May and August. There is a lounge space to relax, enjoy some reading materials, wait to use one of the prayer spaces available through the day, or commune with others. There are halal/kosher treats and cookies, as well as herbal teas to enjoy.
  • ICT: University Technology Services (UTS) manages multiple computer labs across campus.
  • Library: McMaster University has a library system with four main locations: the Mills Memorial Library, the H.G. Thode Library of Science and Engineering, the Innis Library, and the Health Sciences Library. These libraries offer a wide range of resources, including books, journals, databases, and study spaces, for students, faculty, and the general public. 
  • Gym: Located at McMaster University, the Pulse fitness centre offers everything you need to live an active, healthy lifestyle. Their state-of-the-art facility features a wide range of fitness amenities, programs, classes and more for individuals of all abilities and skill levels.
  • Sports: McMaster University has extensive sports facilities, including the David Braley Athletic Centre, which features a 200m indoor running track, a fitness center with cardio and strength equipment, and a multi-purpose sports hall. The university also has an indoor turf gym for sports like soccer, a sports medicine clinic, and various studios for activities like dance and martial arts. 
  • Accommodation: McMaster University has on-campus residence accommodation for students and also provides resources to help students find off-campus housing. The university offers a variety of residence options, including different room types and amenities, with fees and application processes detailed on its housing website. 
  • Research Center: McMaster University has numerous research centers and institutes, with over 60 centers and institutes listed in its official resources. These centers are a core part of the university's research-intensive identity and span various faculties and disciplines, from health sciences and engineering to science and business. 
  • Laboratory: McMaster University has numerous laboratories across various disciplines, including science, engineering, humanities, and health sciences. Some examples include the High Level Laboratory Facility for nuclear research, the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute (MPRI) with seven research labs, and the Platelet Immunology Laboratory. There are also specialized labs for decision science, ancient DNA research, and GIS.

History

McMaster University was founded on April 23, 1887, in Toronto. The university was named in honour of Senator William McMaster, who bequeathed a gift of $900,000 to establish the school. McMaster’s first class began their studies in 1890 in the Faculties of Arts and Theology. The Alumni Society was founded after the first class graduated in 1894.
