If you are attending a school that offers multiple curricula, we may require your school to specify the type of program you are enrolled in to ensure that all corresponding documentation is submitted.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

The academic requirements below have been established by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and are the minimum required for entry into a graduate program. Some programs may have additional requirements which could include higher GPA requirements than those listed below. For program-specific requirements, please visit the individual program pages for more information.

International applicants can review the university's International Admissions Credentials  for graduate admission equivalencies for international documentation. (Please note that grade equivalencies in this document are general guidelines only and are subject to change.)


Master's programs: 

  • Hold a four-year honours degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution in the same area of graduate study or a closely related subject.
  • Overall academic standing of at least a B average (GPA: 3.0 on a 4.3 scale or 73 to 76 per cent), with a minimum B average in the last two full-time years (four semesters) of undergraduate work or equivalent.

Doctoral programs:

  • Completion of a research project or thesis-based master's level degree from a recognized institution in the same area of graduate study or a closely related subject.
  • A minimum B+ average (GPA: 3.3 on a 4.3 scale or 77 to 79 per cent).

Graduate diplomas: 

  • Hold a four-year honours degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution in the area of graduate study or a closely related subject.
  • A minimum B-minus average (GPA: 2.7 on a 4.3 scale or 70 to 72 per cent).

  • Library: The award-winning North Oshawa Library blends modern technology with the warmth of a traditional library. Students enjoy a variety of individual and collaborative learning spaces across multiple floors, including the Dixon-Alger Fireside Reading Room with its iconic glass rotunda overlooking Polonsky Commons.

 

  • Recreation and Wellness Centre: Serving students, faculty, and staff from Ontario Tech and Durham College, the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC) offers a wide variety of fitness and recreational opportunities. The CRWC features a large triple gymnasium, squash courts, an indoor track, The FLEX Fitness Centre (with cardio and weight machines), training rooms, and a dance studio. Welcoming more than 10,000 users each month, the centre includes the Campus Health and Wellness Centre’s medical clinic and provides services such as acupuncture, athletic therapy, massage therapy and counselling. It also offers a full-service pharmacy.

 

  • Research Centre: The Software Informatics Research Centre (SIR) features research, study and active learning spaces, including engineering labs in electronics, mechatronics and robotics, as well as a makerspace with 3D printers.

 

  • Laboratory: ERC features lecture halls and modern labs, including the Nicholas Sion Brilliant Energy Laboratories, enabling research in clean and green energy technologies to meet current and future needs. It promotes Canada’s entrepreneurial advantage through public-private research and commercialization partnerships. ERC is also home to the Brilliant Catalyst business startup incubator and hands-on learning centre, the Brilliant Energy Institute and the campus retail store.

    nsions and Employment Practice of an international law firm based in Toronto.  His practice focuses on all aspects of pension, benefits and employment law.

    His involvement in education includes co-founding the National Institute on Ageing at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU); he is also a former Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, and a published author. He is Chair of the North York General Board of Governors, a member and former Chair of the Toronto French School Board of Directors and Chair of the Western Law Advisory Council.  He is also the immediate past Chair of TMU’s Board of Governors, and a former member of the Ontario Science Centre Board of Trustees.

    In 2019, Canadian Lawyer magazine named him as one of the 25 most influential lawyers in Canada.  He has received a number of awards and honours, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Ontario Bar Association’s Award of Excellence in Pension and Benefits Law and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from TMU.  In 2022 he was also appointed to the Order of Ontario.

    y’s new Deputy Provost, effective Wednesday, January 1. Dr. Bluechardt has served as the university’s Interim Deputy Provost since October 1, 2023. She has deep connections to Ontario Tech and Durham Region, having previously served as Dean of the university’s Faculty of Health Sciences.

    As Deputy Provost, Dr. Bluechardt will retain responsibility for Student Life (Athletics and Recreation, Student Support Services, Operations and Planning); Careers, Co-op, Experiential Learning, Student Advising, Teaching and Learning Centre, Continuous Learning, and Indigenous Education Cultural Services. She will continue to work closely with Dr. Lori Livingston, Provost and Vice-President, Academic to further engage deans, faculty members and staff with the operational and academic priorities of the university, including academic excellence and student success.
