Admission

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

Nationality

  • The applicant and both parents must be foreign nationals.
  • Korean nationals and dual Korean nationals are generally not eligible under this international-admission route. 

Academic qualification

  • Freshman: Must have completed or be expected to complete high school.
  • Transfer: Must have completed 2–3 years of college or at least 2 years/4 semesters at a four-year university, with at least 66 credits earned.

Language proficiency
Requirements vary by department/programme. PNU's undergraduate international admission guide specifies Korean/English proficiency requirements depending on the chosen major, so applicants should check the current programme-specific guide before applying. PNU publishes separate 2026 Spring and Fall international undergraduate admission guides.

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Master's

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognised university in Korea or abroad.

Doctoral

  • Master's degree or equivalent from a recognised university in Korea or abroad.

Integrated Master's–Doctoral

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or the relevant PNU master's-credit pathway. 

Language requirements

For the general graduate international-admission route, applicants must meet at least one of the following:

  • TOPIK Level 3 or higher, or completion of Level 3+ at PNU's Language Education Institute
  • TOEFL iBT 80+
  • IELTS 5.5+
  • New TEPS 326+
  • TOEIC 675+
  • An approved Language Requirement Exemption Letter

  • Dormitory: The PNU dormitories, also known as “college living halls”, accommodate 16% of the student body for a total of 4,436 students. The basic structure of the college living hall is 2 students to a room, with shared communal facilities such as showers, toilets, and a gym. The BTL (Built-Transfer-Lease) dormitories, Ungbi Hall (in Busan) and the Haengrim Hall (in Yangsan), both built in 2009, have individual heating systems, air conditioning, toilets, and showers to minimize the inconveniences of communal life.

 

  • Library: The Pusan National University Library was established in 1946 with the founding of the university. In January 1999, the library adopted a subject library system to meet the demand for specialized knowledge and to actively respond to an emerging information-based society. Today, the library provides subject-oriented services across 7 categories: Science & Engineering, Arts & Athletics, Humanities & Social Sciences, Language & Literature, Law, Medical Sciences, and Nano & Life Sciences.

Pusan National University was founded in May 1946 withthe establishment ideology of truth, liberty and devotion.

Although the University started initially with just two faculties, the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Fisheries, since then, it has grown into a major research level institution covering all the major disciplines within academia. Today, the University enjoys its reputation as one of top universities in Korea.

The University now compriseds fifteen colleges, one independent division, one general graduate school, fourprofessional graduate schools and five special graduate schools, and contributes to the development of the nation by producing prominent experts and talented leaders.

Pusan National University, marking its 80th anniversary in 2026, has become the No. 1 national university in research and educational competency, and its tradition and ability are estimated highly. More than 280,000 PNU alumni have taken responsibility for the development of their communities and the country, and about 33,500 students, 1,200 professors, and 730 faculty members are working as one to develop PNU, an institution based on the principles of truth, freedom, and service.
