Cafeteria: The Habitat Café in the Grant Building offers exceptional cuisine in a casual environment. You can buy a Value Card to use at the cafeteria and kiosk.

 

Accommodation: Students can stay on campus in our dorms for short periods, for example, to attend a residency at Royal Roads. If you're taking a full-time program on campus, you'll need to find long-term housing off-campus.

 

Gym: Students receive a free gym membership at the Royal Roads Recreation Centre.

 

Place of Worship: The Chapel and Interfaith Room are available for quiet reflection, meditation and prayer 24 hours a day.

Vice Chancellor

Philip Steenkamp

Dr. Philip Steenkamp was appointed president and vice-chancellor of Royal Roads University June 18, 2018 and began his five-year term Jan. 1, 2019.

Steenkamp is a galvanizing leader with broad experience in the public service and the post-secondary sector.

He held the role of vice-president, external relations at the University of British Columbia and at Simon Fraser University.

At UBC, his portfolio included government and corporate relations, community engagement, communications and marketing, campus and community planning, and involved extensive engagement with business, industry and the community. He also held responsibility for UBC’s downtown Robson Square campus and UBC’s Downtown Eastside Learning Exchange. With oversight of UBC campus lands, Steenkamp led a comprehensive range of municipal functions, including planning, design, zoning and permitting. As a member of the UBC Properties Trust Board, he has held responsibility for residential and commercial development on university lands which generated funds for the university endowment.

    er experience includes senior communications work for some of the provincial government’s most pressing issues (including director of communications for the Ministry of Finance and Provincial Revenue). She has served as communications and development director for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, and vice-president of Acumen Communications Group, where she worked with a broad base of clients from government, the private sector, the post-secondary sector and beyond.

    She is an accredited public relations professional (APR) and holds an MBA from the University of Victoria. Susan is committed to strategic communications and collaboration, and shares the team’s passion for writing and storytelling.

    oyal Roads School of Business as an assistant professor in 2014, and over time stepped into numerous leadership roles, including Director of the School of Business and Program Head for the Master of Business Administration in Executive Management as well as for the Bachelor of Business Administration in Innovation & Sustainability.

    Mittelman co-led Royal Roads’ application to become a designated Ashoka U Changemaker Campus and now serves as an Ashoka U change champion. He also makes significant contributions to RRU’s research and innovation efforts, with studies relating to social entrepreneurship, corporate social innovation and non-profit marketing. He is currently leading Royal Road’s efforts in the creation of the Westshore Innovation & Start-Up Hub at the new Royal Roads campus in Langford and sits on the Board of the South Island Prosperity Partnership.
