Vice Chancellor

Professor Francis Campbell

Professor Campbell Joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) as a member of Her Majesty’s Diplomatic Service in 1997. He has worked at the United Nations Security Council in New York, the European Union, and at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London and on diplomatic postings overseas. From 1999-2003, he served on the staff of the then Prime Minister Tony Blair, first as a ... read more
Policy Adviser in the No.10 Policy Unit, and then as a Private Secretary to the Prime Minister. He also served on secondment with Amnesty International as the Senior Director of Policy. From 2005-2011, he served as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Holy See. From 2011-13, he served as Deputy High Commissioner in Pakistan. From 2013-2014 he was the Head of the Policy Unit in the FCO and Director of Innovation at UK Trade and Investment.

From 2014-2020, Professor Campbell served as Vice-Chancellor of St. Mary’s University in London and also Professor of International Relations, while on special leave from the Foreign Office. In February 2020, Professor Campbell became the fourth Vice-Chancellor of The University of Notre Dame Australia. He also holds the position of Professor, International Relations.

David has led many initiatives around physical and digital infrastructure for education, student experience, curriculum renewal, sustainability and especially the educational attainment agenda, leading the Children’s Universities in Western Australia and Tasmania, which is now also operating in Western Australia.

    David is a Principal Fellow of AdvanceHE (PFHEA). He is currently Chair of Universities Australia DVC A Executive and leads UA’s work on academic integrity; teaching recognition and stakeholder relationships with TEQSA.  David is also Chair of the Australian Awards (Program Awards) for University Teaching.

    Her area of expertise is nursing education and qualitative research. She has worked in all areas of nursing and has current nursing experience as a Community Health Nurse.

    As part of her administrative role, Professor Alliex in association with other academics is trialling many innovations in nursing education. Prior to teaching at the University, Professor Alliex was the Nursing Adviser for Professional Standards at the Nurses Board of Western Australia. She has nursing education experience in Australia and overseas.

He has previously held senior roles at the University, including Chief-of-Staff and Director of Public Policy.

    He has collaborated with the following WA State Government agencies: Western Australian Electoral Commission, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Department of Education, and Public Sector Commission. He has also partnered with the City of Fremantle and Shire of Christmas Island on various projects.

    He has been a WA Convenor of the Electoral Regulation Research Network since 2017 and is a member of Australasian Studies of Parliament Group.

History

The University of Notre Dame was founded on November 26, 1842, by Father Edward Sorin, CSC, who was also its first president, as an all-male institution on land donated by the Bishop of Vincennes. Today, many Holy Cross priests continue to work for the university, including as its president. Notre Dame rose to national prominence in the early 1900s for its Fighting Irish football team, especially under the guidance of the legendary coach Knute Rockne.
