Université de Hearst is a public French-language university located in Ontario, Canada, with campuses in Hearst, Kapuskasing, and Timmins. Established in 1953, it became an independent institution in 2021. The university offers programs in Liberal Arts, Psychology, Business, and Interdisciplinary Human and Social Sciences, primarily serving the Franco-Ontarian community.

Admission

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

International Students:

Submit official secondary-school transcripts and diploma, plus any exam results (e.g., final year exam, Baccalaureate) — in the original language and translated into English or French.

If the previous study was not in French or English, the applicant must have spent at least 3 years full-time in a program taught in French or English.

For students with credentials like the International Baccalaureate (IB): IB is accepted if the student achieved at least 24 points overall in six subjects (three higher-level and three standard-level), with equivalences for HL subjects with grade.

Language Proficiency:

Instruction at Université de Hearst is in French (it is a francophone university).

Therefore proof of proficiency in French is required if your previous education was not in French.

At the University of Hearst, we offer students the opportunity to live in residence at our Timmins or Hearst campuses. Each residence has its own unique character and provides a welcoming environment.

 

  • Research Center: The research activities of the University of Hearst are aligned with its mission, which focuses on the Franco-Canadian , small, northern , and Indigenous region of Northern Ontario , as well as on sustainable social and economic development and youth retention in the region. Research areas include: innovation in pedagogy ; the social economy and sustainable development, particularly through its Regional Centre for Research and Intervention.

Dean of the Faculties of Humanities and Philosophy at Saint Paul University since 2022, she was previously an associate professor for 15 years at Laurentian University, where she also served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and as a department chair. A familiar face in the media, Aurélie Lacassagne has been analyzing international political issues for over a decade, notably on the provincial and national airwaves of Radio-Canada.

    A specialist in neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism, he primarily teaches psychopathology courses in the psychology program. His research and clinical interventions focus on self-regulation and its role in child development, in both autistic and neurotypical children.

History

The institution was founded in 1953 by Louis Lévesque under the name Séminaire de Hearst. Financed by the population of the Diocese of Hearst, Ontario, its mission was to provide secondary education accessible to the French-speaking youth of the northeast of Ontario.[citation needed]

In 1959 the school was incorporated under the name Collège de Hearst to focus on university studies. It was affiliated with the University of Sudbury in 1957 and later to Laurentian University in 1963.
