Yeungnam University (YU) is a comprehensive private university in Gyeongsan, South Korea, with a history dating back to 1947. It has developed into a major research and education institution, offering undergraduate and graduate programmes across humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, medicine, business, arts and other fields. As of April 2026, YU has 28,131 undergraduate students and 2,941 graduate/professional students.

The university focuses on innovation, interdisciplinary education, industry–university research, global cooperation and social contribution. Its current vision emphasizes becoming a creative innovation platform contributing to global prosperity.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

Freshmen

A. High school graduation

B. Korean Language Proficiency

One of the following requirements must be met for application:

• 1) TOPIK Level 2 or higher
• 2) Certificate of YU TOPIK
• 3) Completion of Level 3 or higher at Korean Language Centers at Korean universities (Korean language ability interview is required.)

Transfer

A. Transfer to the 2nd year

• 1) 1st year(2 semester) completion of University or
• 2) College graduation

B. Transfer to the 3rd year

• 1) 2nd year(4 semester) completion of University or
• 2) College graduation

C. Korean Language Proficiency

One of the following requirements must be met for application :

• 1) TOPIK Level 2 or higher (The TOPIK transcript must be valid after June 16, 2021)
• 2) Certificate of YU TOPIK (YU TOPIK is the Korean test which is developed by Yeungnam Univ.)
• 3) Completion of Level 4 or higher at Korean Language Centers at Korean universities (Korean language ability interview is required.)

Postgraduate Admission Requirments

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements.
 1. An applicant whose both parents hold nationalities other than Korean
 2. An applicant who completed a 16-year education of elementary, middle, high school and
university in countries other than Korea.
 

Applicants can apply for any department regardless of their previous degree study field. Applicants who hold either a Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Dental Clinic degree are eligible to
apply for studies in the Clinical Medicine Field of Medical Science.

 Applicants who do not hold a
degree from the medical field are eligible to obtain a Master of Science or Ph.D. in Science degree.

 International Professors for Education at the College of Basic Studies, Yeugnam University are eligible
to apply for the Graduate Program at Yeungnam University.

Masters

1. A Bachelor's Degree holder (or to be completed before the admission date) from an
   internationally recognized college or university
   or
2. the educational attainment equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree.

PhD

1. A Master's Degree holder (or to be completed before the admission date) from an
internationally recognized college or university

Facilities

• Library: The Yeungnam University Library has 22 floors, and a basement level in the main building. As an information hub library, it holds more than 1,820,000 books and provides digital services, digital journals, and an online data base with updated academic information. The University Library is open to the public, in addition to YU students. The main library holds a huge collection of books in liberal arts study and in the social sciences. Also, there are 3 other branches, including the Law Library, the Science Library, and the Medical Library in Daegu. The libraries will not be open on national holidays nor the University Anniversary on December 22nd.

• Accommodation/ Dormitory: The university opened dormitory facilities in May 1973, for those who need on campus housing. These facilities are opened for undergraduates (mainly) and graduate students. At present six residence halls, including one self-boarding apartment type hall, accommodate 1,200 students. A modern style dining hall in which more than 500 people can eat at a time, a video room with a big screen TV and a video player, study rooms, computer labs, resting rooms, ping-pong tables, snack stores and exercise rooms are facilities among others provided for dormitory residents.

• Health Service Center: The Health Care Center has been trying to improve the health of students and faculty members and help them lead a healthy school life. As part of this effort, we also provide dispatched doctor's care, in-body measurements, dental checkups, and dressing treatments. The pride of our health care center is the Health Benefits Association system, which was established in 1983. In this system, if you pay the deduction fee each semester, you can deduct up to 1.5 million won per semester for free medical treatment at the university healthcare center and for medical treatment covered by the national health insurance when using designated hospitals.

• Cafeterias: Student Cafeteria - Location: Student Union Building, Humanities Cafeteria for Faculty and Staff – Location: AI Smart Education Center 3, and Science Cafeteria - Location: Cafeteria for Natural Sciences Building.
   

Accreditations

ABEEK – Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea: Engineering education programmes. YU has a long history with ABEEK and was among Korea's first universities to receive accreditation; its engineering programmes have undergone ABEEK accreditation.

KAAB – Korea Architectural Accrediting Board: 5-year Bachelor of Architecture programme. YU's Architecture major is accredited by KAAB.
