Princeton University, the fourth-oldest institution of higher education in the United States, was originally established as the College of New Jersey in 1746. It relocated to Princeton in 1756 and was renamed Princeton University in 1896.   • Library: Princeton University Library has different types of libraries. And welcomes visitors to use our collections. The Library offers a variety of individual and group study spaces throughout its various campus buildings. 

 

  • Cafeteria: First-years and sophomores eat most of their meals at their residential college dining hall. Juniors and seniors may dine at residential colleges, or join eating clubs or student food cooperatives. In addition, students can eat at campus cafés, the Center for Jewish Life, or local restaurants, or prepare their own food in dormitory kitchens.

 

  • Health Services: University Health Services is the primary health care provider for undergraduate and graduate students, their dependents, and faculty and staff. Our accredited team of doctors, nurses and practitioners offers a comprehensive range of medical services as well as health education, outreach and wellness programs.

 

  • Place of Worship: The University’s 17 chaplaincies and numerous student groups are among the most vibrant centers of faith on campus. One of the great resources at Princeton is the presence and vitality of so many religious traditions. The campus denominational chaplaincies and student groups attend to the spiritual needs of students, staff, faculty, families, alumni, and friends through many opportunities for ritual observance, spiritual counseling, and engaging programming. The Alpha Omega Ministry is a nondenominational ministry dedicated to promoting and developing a deep sense of community among its members through engaging with principles from the bible.

    Before Dean Jarrett’s current role at Princeton, he was the Seryl Kushner Dean of the College of Arts and Science and professor of English at New York University. Prior to that, he worked at Boston University, where he was a professor jointly appointed in the Department of English and the Program in African American Studies; he also served as chair of the English department and associate dean of the faculty for the humanities. Before Boston University, he began his academic career as an assistant professor of English at the University of Maryland, College Park. In 2021, Dean Jarrett was appointed to the Association of American Universities’ Advisory Board for Racial Equity in Higher Education, which seeks to address issues of racial inequity on campus and examine structural barriers to academic access and success in higher education.

She joined her alma mater, Mount Holyoke College, as an assistant dean of students responsible for working with students of color and cultural organizations. She held several other student affairs positions at Mount Holyoke, including director of diversity and inclusion, associate dean of the college and acting dean of the college, before joining Skidmore College, where she served as dean of students and vice president for student affairs.
