Admission

Undergraduate Admission Requirement

Freshmen and Transfer Undergraduate applications are processed and evaluated through the Office of Admissions and, for international students, the Office of International Admissions.  Former student admissions decisions will be finalized by the college once the Office of Admissions has reviewed and processed your application and credentials.  Please be aware, if you do not submit all required credentials and pay the application fee by the deadline, your application will not be processed for a decision. You are required to submit all transcripts by the deadline, even if you are currently attending the school.

Admission standards for the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics are higher than the general admissions criteria for UH. The tables below show the admission criteria for high school graduates, transfer and former students. Current UH students who want to change to a major within NSM please see the change of major requirements.

 

International Students:

  • with citizenship from a country outside the U.S.
  • have no college coursework (or have less than 15 credit hours from an accredited university)
  • have an equivalent GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale)*
  • meet English Language Requirements*

*Some majors have additional requirements other than the ones listed above, including SAT/ACT scores.

An accomplished scholar and collaborative leader, Horn works with the College of Education community to ensure that everyone has access to thriving schools and healthy communities.

    Horn’s research primarily focuses on the systemic influences of assessment and related policies on the learning trajectories of students, especially those traditionally underserved by the education and social sectors. She serves as executive director of the Institute for Education Policy Research and Evaluation. She also serves as director of the Center for Research, Evaluation and Advancement of Teacher Education and director of the UH Education Research Center, one of three such state-approved entities with access to Texas’ PK-20 and workforce data.

History

The University of Houston's proud heritage of academic excellence dates back to its founding in 1927, when its primary focus was training future teachers. At that time, it was called Houston Junior College and classes were held on the San Jacinto High School campus.

Over the years, we grew and prospered, becoming the University of Houston in 1934. Two years later, the institution acquired land for a permanent campus, and its first building opened in 1939. In 1947, the institution launched one of its many rich traditions by adopting the cougar, later named Shasta, as its official mascot.
