Mission

The Dean of Students office (DOS) seeks to assist students experiencing difficult circumstances or hardships to discover strategies for managing distress and navigating personal challenges as well as connect them with campus and community resources that can support their personal and educational goals. DOS staff work to help students to succeed academically and become contributing members of our campus and community.

Our services may be supportive in times of personal distress, facilitative in times of conflict, educational in times of development, or remedial in times of difficulty or accountability. Our team members are well-versed in behavioral intervention, campus safety, educational outcomes, and University and community resources to help students thrive. We recognize life at UW goes way beyond the classroom and seek to empower students.

Along with these prerequisites, each academic department may have additional criteria, such as standardized test scores or letters of recommendation. Prospective students should consult their respective department before applying.

Each graduate program has its own requirements that all students must fulfill, there are some additional requirements that all international graduate students must complete including providing proof of English Proficiency, proof of financial support and a copy of your passport.

    Dr. Alexander’s research and teaching focuses on the history of American capitalism, international economics, and health economics. She regularly speaks to statewide audiences and state and national media about the status of the Wyoming, US, and global economies. She produces an annual economic and statewide engagement report on the impacts of the University on the state, and she has authored several publications on the political and economic impacts of transboundary pandemics and the productivity effects of various diseases.

    associated with them. These include research and innovation administrative offices, ten research centers and institutes, and many economic development offices such as Wyoming SBDC network and Manufacturing Works, Wyoming’s MEP unit. Together, they support and facilitate the research efforts of UW’s faculty, staff, and students; direct the university’s research mission as a public research university; promote the university’s research program with stakeholders; direct technology transfer and commercialization efforts for UW intellectual property; and facilitate synergies with Wyoming industry through economic development and workforce preparation activities. He is also responsible for coordinating UW’s collaborations with community colleges through Wyoming Innovation Partnerships Program and as such works closely with the Wyoming Governor’s Office as well as Wyoming’s economic development and workforce services departments. During his tenure at UW, research expenditures of the university increased by 78% reaching $167 million in FY2024. The University received Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP) designation from APLU in 2024 and achieved R1 status in 2025. He is a PI on NSF’s Accelerating Research Translation grant from NSF and represents UW on the governance board of the CO-WY ASCEND Innovation Engine.

    state-level IT strategy and operations, culminating in her role as director of IT operations and acting deputy chief information officer for state relationships at the Oregon Department of Education.

    In 2017, she took her expertise to OSU as director of information services for Student Health Services and was promoted to executive director of technical and solutions architecture in 2021. She also is an adjunct faculty member teaching IT and workplace psychology courses.

In February 2017 Tara was named General Counsel and in 2019 was named Vice President.  Prior to working for the University, Tara was a law clerk in the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and an associate attorney general in the Water and Natural Resources Division of the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office.

History

The University of Wyoming (UW) is a public land-grant research university in Laramie, Wyoming, United States. It was founded in March 1886, four years before the territory was admitted as the 44th state, and opened in September 1887. In addition to on-campus classes in Laramie, the university's Outreach School offers more than 41 degree, certificate and endorsement programs to distance learners across the state and beyond. These programs are delivered through the use of technology, such as online and video conferencing classes. The Outreach School has nine regional centers in the state, with several on community college campuses, to give Wyoming residents access to a university education without relocating to Laramie.
