With approximately 5,200 students and 180 professors, aided and abetted by over 100 contract lecturers and more than 300 technicians and administrative staff, Technische Hochschule Mannheim (Technical University of Applied Sciences Mannheim) is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The engineering departments (Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology) continued from the former Mannheim School of Engineering, established back in 1898. Most of the graduate programs offered still center around these subjects.
In line with ongoing progress in science and technology, the university has also responded to the changing requirements of the labor market, supplementing the engineering departments with new and innovative study programs in computer science, engineering & management and biotechnology.
After the integration of the College of Design and the merger with the College of Social Studies, TH Mannheim now offers a broader range of study programs than most of the other universities of applied sciences. This broad spectrum and the synergies it produces provide a sound basis for the acquisition of the requisite methodical competence and specialist knowledge, in conjunction with social skills and interdisciplinary thinking.
With all the assets of a modern university campus, Technische Hochschule Mannheim provides students with ideal conditions for squaring up to the requirements posed by the professional careers they have set their sights on. Close working contacts with industry, professional associations and cultural institutions, together with the Karl Völker Foundation affiliated to the university, represent an ideal breeding ground for internationally acclaimed research and development activities. For many years, TH Mannheim has been one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg. As such, it enables its students to participate in a wide range of research and development projects prior to graduation.
Mannheim University of Applied Sciences is a modern campus university with a vibrant 125-year tradition. Its degree programs in engineering, social work, and design are characterized by a strong practical focus and innovative study concepts. The approximately 5,400 students benefit from direct interaction with lecturers and small class sizes. Practical study semesters, collaborations with companies, student participation in research and development projects, and the professional experience of the lecturers all contribute to excellent career prospects for graduates. Furthermore, Mannheim University of Applied Sciences is among Germany's leading universities of applied sciences in technological and engineering research.

The Mannheim University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1898 as a private school of engineering for the disciplines of mechanical and electronical engineering, subsidized by the city of Mannheim. In 1939, it was taken over by the city and named Mannheim School of Engineering. In 1969 finally, it was taken over again by the State of Baden-Württemberg and renamed State School of Engineering. As a consequence, the curriculum was broadened by adding, among others, the subjects chemical engineering, process engineering, and informatics. In 1971, the School of Engineering was officially promoted to the status of a University of Applied Sciences.
