We see ourselves as a university where openness, initiative, interdisciplinary and unconventional thinking are encouraged and fostered. As an open, democratic university, we create knowledge today for responsible action tomorrow. Developing, testing, and implementing ideas is our aim – even if they are not yet mainstream. We see ourselves as a catalyst. The challenges of sustainable development are at the heart of our actions. In research, teaching, and knowledge transfer, we look to the future: We stand for a socially just, ecologically and economically viable future.
More than 300 professorships are organized across eleven departments – and the growing university is currently establishing numerous additional professorships, not least for the Kassel Institute for Sustainability. At this new research center, students and researchers engage with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Around a dozen new degree programs have recently been created in this area of ??sustainable transformation. In addition, materials of the future represent another focus in research and teaching. Approximately one-fifth of all enrolled students are studying to become teachers.
The diversity of our programs is also reflected in the composition of our students. They come from different countries, families, and educational backgrounds; with us, they find support and personal freedom.
We are aware of the international relevance of our research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. At the same time, we do not forget our roots: We see ourselves as a driving force in the North Hesse region and have an impact on the city of Kassel and the surrounding area. Knowledge transfer, spin-offs, as well as cultural initiatives and urban development projects are all part of our mission. Thanks in no small part to our university, Kassel, the documenta and World Heritage city, has developed into a thriving and optimistic city in the heart of Germany.

In order to be able to study, you first need a degree certificate that entitles you to study at a university (university entrance qualification): Allgemeine Hochschulreife, Fachgebundene Hochschulreife, Fachhochschulreife, Meisterprüfung, or comparable qualification(studying without Abitur).
You can find a good overview of the various qualifications and their differences on the information page "Admission requirements" of the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art.
If you have a certificate from a German Studienkolleg outside the University of Kassel (Feststellungsprüfung), this is considered an application with foreign certificates. Therefore, please note the information under "Application with foreign certificates" for your application.
If you have a degree obtained abroad , you must apply through uni-assist , the application service for international students . The general requirements for applying for a place at a university (degree, language skills) are described below ( please read carefully ). You can find the deadlines and specific admission requirements (proof of qualifications, knowledge, documents) for each program at the University of Kassel on the respective program website.
If you wish to study with us, you need a recognized secondary school leaving certificate for a Bachelor's degree and a recognized university degree for a Master's degree. Your nationality is irrelevant – your qualification simply needs to be comparable to a German qualification. You can find comprehensive information on admission requirements on the DAAD website: DAAD Admission Requirements .
Do you meet the requirements? Great! Then let's move on to the application process.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) website provides a general description of the university admissions process in Germany. Feel free to read it beforehand. The link is below.
1. The application deadline can be found on the respective program page.
2. In addition to the requirements mentioned above, there may be program-specific requirements. You can also find these on the program page.
3. You submit your application to a central office for international students: uni-assist. We've linked a guide below (it's worth taking a look!) and describe the entire process in detail on the respective program page .
Please come back here afterwards. Then we'll continue with the concrete planning of your stay.
